Condition of the pitch

Did anybody notice the state of the pitch on Tuesday?
The grass had yellow bands as though it had been damaged, and this gave the pitch an overall yellowish and uneven look, not the lush green surface we have been used to.

I thought it looked poor on open day, but I put this down to ongoing preparation.
This wouldn't look good for our World Cup credentials if it isn't improved before our first televised game.

They will have to be careful when they raise the height of the Kop and particularly the South Stand. This will seriously limit the amount of sunlight that the pitch gets. The area in front of the South Stand has been the problem area for many years even before the stand grows in stature. Man Utd have, apparently, had problems for years due to the sheer height of one of their stands at Old Trafford. The old muddy pitches where DB and NW used to grind out results and which prevented "passing teams" from playing slick football won't be appreciated by some of the prima donnas who'll be gracing BDTBL in the World Cup

The pitch has had sunlight problems, but also the manager basically has the say in how he wants the pitch, be it wet, be it dry, be it sandy, be it rough, be it long, be it smooth. Glen the head groundsman gets stick for the pitch, but he has to do what he is told.

Why does it matter, the ball is usually kicked over the middle third of the pitch!

It looked fairly lush on the open day I thought, when they'd left the grass to grow a bit longer.

It did look dry in places on Tuesday, but it didn't cut up at all and Billy Sharp still managed to fall on his arse a couple of times like Bambi on skates.

Bring back the pitches of old, grass in the corners with all the rest concrete or mud, depending on the weather, leather boots over your ankles, big thick shin guards, bandages on both knees, them wert days lad. Only joking of course, but our pitch has looked really good for some time now, and it came as quite a surprise when I saw it. I'm sure our groundsman has it under control.

personally i think we have one of the best groundsmen in the country! Come january, our pitch'll still be looking great and loads (cough - Hillsb!) will be torn to shite!
