Here's a message for travelling fans and London Blades.

Bob Booker will be signing copies of his biography before the Brentford away game on Good Friday, 30th March.

He will be in the Brentford Superstore from 2-2.45 pm and will be delighted to meet, take photos and chat with any Blades who wish to do so as well as sell and sign copies of his book.

The Brentford Superstore is situated in Braemar Road just after the junction with Ealing Road very close (30 yards) to the main entrance to the ground and is very easy to find.

Bob hopes to see lots of you there on 30th March.

Just bumping this up to the top if you don't mind.

Bob hopes some of you will come in to have a chat or a photo taken with him on Friday in the Brentford Superstore from about 2pm.

Cheers!

Well, all I can say in reply to your pathetic, ignorant nonsense is that you cannot ever have met Bob. Just read through some of the threads about him on this message board and you will find tons of evidence from fellow Blades confirming that he is one of the nicest, warmest and most genuine guys you could ever hope to meet. He loves chatting with football fans from Brentford, Sheffield United and Brighton and is tickled pink at still being recognised and remembered. There is not an ounce of cynicism in him. I have never met a footballer less up himself.

Come and meet him and judge for yourself and then apologise for your post.

I look forward to meeting you, Bob. :)

No, I just spent the best part of eighteen months working and writing a book with him and got to know him very well. He is a great guy and my wife who is a far better judge of character than me also really admires him.
You need to chill mate, I was pulling your leg, hence the smiley. ;)

How much commission you on? :D

Not nearly enough given all the work involved - but honestly, it was a pleasure. Made a great friend and had a lot of fun.

At the first game of the season against Brentford, Bob had to endure a star struck 40 year old man introduce him to his young son who was mascot that day, as one of the heroes of his youth.

Bob laughed and told the 40 year old man he was making him feel old.

The 40 year old also was surprised with how big Bob really is.

Bit harsh there I feel. I was one of those who went to WH Smith at Meadowhall and even though there were quite a few there, he found time to chat and seemed genuinely pleased that people were there.

Just my take on it that's all, a real pleasure to meet him.

Great to see Rooks there too, someone else who has given the Blades so much.

Bob, then a top flight player, once came to my house, a kid he had never met, in his own time, on my birthday and had a cup of tea, spoke to me about football and United, posed for photos and then arranged for free tickets and a tour round the dressing rooms for me and my old man for a match the following week. If that was something he 'endured' he certainly didnt show it, and the only thing he gained from it was my eternal gratitude and admiration. I get the impression he values that kind of thing more than money but maybe I'm wrong.

What did he have for his tea?

I tell you what mate...

Why don't you get a sense of humour instead?

My post was cynical yes, based on what most of these minor celebrity book signing events are usually about, but it's not personal to Mr Booker. I don't know the guy. I'm not interested in knowing the guy. But, I'm glad to hear what a nice guy he is and I hope his book sells well.

And your relationship with him is? (Sorry, I'm being cynical again but something tells me you may have a vested interest in his book sales?)

Greville Waterman wrote the book, as should be readily apparent if you've had even a passing interest in this board over the last couple of years. Of course he wants the book to sell well.

Greville, I won't be at Brentford but I have read the book and really enjoyed it. I felt you did Bob's life and times justice. A bonus for me was learning more about the history and travails of Brentford and Brighton, 2 clubs who I knew little about.

I worked out the other day that I saw every match Bob played for United at the Lane. They were good times. Thanks for bringing them back to life.

Ooh! another "arsey" comment. Well mate, if you had "a passing interest" in the board you'll have noticed I've made almost 4,500 posts on it since 2015, so I think that qualifies as a passing interest don't you? Yes I can see that Greville Waterman wrote the book mate - that was my point. The guy has signed up for this board to promote the book - and fair enough, why not? Good luck to him and Mr Booker as I've already said, I hope the book sells well.

As for Bob Booker the player, I think I can safely say I saw every game he played at the Lane too - and quite a few away from home as well. The guy was very poor at first and the butt of fans jokes. I remember watching him when he first came and thinking, "is this the level of player we've now sunk to?" after years of being spoiled by some really good quality players. He won me and us over though with his 100% effort that he gave every match - and his aggressive style which left many an opponent on his arse. He evolved from being a joke, quite frankly, to being a player who the fans took to their hearts for his sheer effort and character.

I'm glad you enjoyed the book. It's not something that interests me, not because it's Bob Booker, but because I'm just not interested in footballers lives, I don't put them on a pedestal or afford them hero worship. They're just ordinary blokes to me. I show my passion for what they do from the terraces and appreciate that immensely, but that's where the appreciation starts and stops.

The key word is 'another'. It should tell you that you might be out of step here but then again, that probabaly wouldn't stop you.

If that's genuinely the case, what are you doing on this thread at all?

If Bob makes £2-3 per book it's only like buying him a pint. For all the good times he gave us that is nothing. Plenty of anecdotes above showing what a genuine guy he is, so that's good enough for me.

BTW, well done for your 4,500 posts and perhaps you should collate them into a book? I'm sure it would fly off the shelves.

If you had ever met Bob then you would know that is a diabolical thing to say.

The man is so humble that when he came as guest of honour on the Fulham Monty he brought a mate with him "in case no one would talk to me"

He's a top bloke.

I wouldn't pay too much attention, there's always one as they say. This is what passes for "humour" round these parts.

I've not long finished the book and really enjoyed it, not because I put footballers on a pedestal, if anything the book reveals that Bob was pretty much a normal ordinary working bloke who happened to play football, but because I found it interesting to read about an ex-blade who certainly wasn't a superstar. I've read Keith Edwards and Tony Kenworthy's books for the same reason.
