BLADES CUT IN ON AIDY'S BID FOR JOHN

WATFORD boss Aidy Boothroyd last night agreed a £3.25million deal for Fulham striker Collins John - but faces losing out to Sheffield United.

John (above) will talk to Watford today. However, Blades boss Neil Warnock may have scuppered the deal after he too made a move for the 21-year-old.

With Marlon King out for the rest of the season, Boothroyd is desperate for a striker to lead the Hornets' relegation fight.

£3.25 million?

Warnock is dangerous when he has money.

For a 21 year old top-flight goal-scorer? Many Blades fans were angry with Warnock for not stumping up for Cameron Jerome - and that's when we didn't have a particularly large wedge. Not saying I'd go for John but I'd rather have him than many other "£3m rated" strikers.

I have been saying for a while that Warnock with money worries me!

We are now seeing the downside of being a PLC, you have to be financially transparant which means all your rivals know what you have to spend thus increased prices for anyone you want to buy. This is when a prudent, astute manager is required to suss out what is what and who is worth the gamble.

Sorry, but a bit player at Fulham is never, ever worth £3.25m. We shouldn't be entertaining that, look at our position and then look at Watford's, they are entitled to panic buy we are not, please remember that Mr Warnock!!

20 goals in 41 appearances at his age seems less of a gamble than some talked about.

Agreed if the fee was £2m! But given that Fulham haven't exactly set the world alight, why was he not given an extended run in the side? What is he lacking?

Warnock is at his best when on a tight budget looking at cheaper players.

Give him Money and it spells disaster as he has shown with Ade and Horse, if this report is true then again we are paying over the odds.

A regular first team place and a manager who has the confidence in him to give him that place.

Some reports say £2m. I'm not sure if he's the best but it's not a bad record at Premiership level.

It's actually 20 goals from 41 starts and 46 substitute appearances.

reports in the press this morning say that collins john wont be joining watford as they have failed to meet his personal demands.

Wouldnt be a bad signing, not had much action this season but then again he has been out of favour to mcbride and helguson.

Chris Coleman's view (from about 12 months ago I think)

"He can always score a goal.

"It's just his work off the ball, especially in the Premiership. If he could guarantee us a goal every game it wouldn't matter what he did after that, but nobody can guarantee that.

"He's a puppy. We've been trying to instil into him that it's just not about waiting for that one chance a game and scoring. It's not like that in the Premiership

Translates as "Goalscorer but lazy"

MAQ, your signature banner thingy looks like Tongey is getting a noshing from every other player - and he seemingly loves it.

Or "rough diamond" to add to our collection of F Hinds engagement rings.

never looked at like that, but your right. Obviously theres a lot of love in the dressing room LOL

Could also translate as Coleman not being the right manager for this type of player. Don't get me wrong I like Coleman but I wonder if Warnock could be the one to get a little more out of him?

Hahaha MAQ have to agree with TA there, it's like he's shouting "dig in boys! That's right all have some"

Considering the fact that we've been carrying Webber for a few weeks I don't see how playing John would make us any worse off. He seems a quality finisher and the ideal bloke to have hanging around the box and working off Hulse.

As long as he doesn't get caught offside all the time he can bog line as much as he wants providing he scores enough, think we have missed something like that infront of the net, someone to tidy things up. Hulse can do it, but he ends up doing most of the leg work up front anyway.

someone like Marcelo? he he

If we got him for a decent price I would not turn him away.
But Fulham don't have to sell, specially as the boa morte transfer has been confirmed for approximately 5 million

Yeah, it's good business for Fulham though. £3m+ for a player not heavily in demand but to clubs with not the biggest war chest in the Premier league, that on top of £5m for Boa and if the chairma lets Coleman use most of what they get for transfers plus what he gives him they could strengthem well too.

They have agreed a fee with Watford at a reported £3.25m.

He's had talks with them and they are awaiting his decision.

Well, why would he wanna go there.

I think Watford are going to find it hard this transfer window. Who is going to want to go there???

I mean west ham and charlton both have a bit of pulling power. But watford have nothing.

where did you hear that

Surely with the signing of Shelton that means we aint getting John.

Looking at his quoted wages I don't think it was going to happen anyway.

Watford offered him £10k, he demanded £20k. Not a chance.
