From Clough's comments on the show last night about reducing the squad size and getting some players a loan move I see the following happening.
Bunn back to Citeh in a couple of week's time
Coady back to Liverpool after Christmas
Williams on loan to someone else or his contract paid up
McFadz on loan to a Div 4 or non league team
White back to Leeds at end of his spell (they don't want to sell anyway)
One of Baxter or Cuvelier out on loan to freshen them up - I think he would like to shift at least one of these.
Lappin to sign permanently
He could do with getting rid of McMahon, Westlake, McGinty, King and Flynn in January whilst getting that lad from Cardiff he mentioned in on loan - the right back he had at Derby.
Still close enough to pop back and stick the nut on his missus !!I see it has started with McFadzean on loan to Chessy until January

The problem is the shite players know they will be getting replaced.............
so why perform nefore your gone? especially is no-one is going to come in for you? isnt it better to sit back & collect your very nice wage until release?
Deary me........ Nigel has a big job on hand.
Whatever happened to PervyBlade?
Agree with most of the above. Although some of the players mentioned haven't got near the 1st team yet, 28 outfield players is way too many. Yet with all these players we have no experienced cover at CB (unless you count Hill).
The McMahon/Westlake situation is typical - I'm sure we got Westlake in the hope that he would develop into a replacement for Lowton, but he hasn't. Similarly Baxter/Cuvelier for McDonald.
We also seem to bring in players just to make up the numbers in the U21s (Bunn, Johns, McGinty).

Correct me if i'm wrong but don't players at a club usually play for their lives when a new manager comes in?Two things on this:
- the shite players will be the ones he attempts to shift first so they may not get much chance. If they turn down the chance to play football elsewhere to prove themselves or to get match fit, then it pretty much tells Clough about the character
- if the players think that they can just collect a wage then it's a short lived, not sure of the contract durations of the fringe (shite) players, but eventually they will just get paid up/ released. They won't get much better than the deals they're on at the lane if they adopt this attitude. It's not like they're young kids at a premier league side earning 10k a week. They're earning 3-5k and most of them are in the last chance to go forward as footballers. They'll have mortgages to pay and possibly rely on matchday bonus' to top them up.
Either way, Clough will be aware of the characters that he has in the squad
I think that's a bit of a fallacy, seemed like plenty of the side v Gillingham were bothered but it just didn't work out.Correct me if i'm wrong but don't players at a club usually play for their lives when a new manager comes in?
Some of these players don't seem that bothered, unless they are but just not good enough?
NC was saying on Radio Sheff this morning that he expects Williams to be paid off as not in his plans. May try to get out on loan in the meantime. Also said that amongst others, Westlake hasn't progressed as hoped and expected he would be in the same category. Nice to have a manager who knows his onions at last.
If there is a bit of a history between the player and the new manager such as Weir and Porter then you can understand the player feeling deflated. Found the below link interesting reading as I didnt realise that Colin Franks was upset when Ken Furphy came to usCorrect me if i'm wrong but don't players at a club usually play for their lives when a new manager comes in?

Westlake's been a disappointment. There's a decent footballer in there technically but he's woefully lacking on the mental side of things. He'll sink down the leagues now.
Agreed. He also gets an awful lot of shit from fans even when he does the right thing.
I can't really put a finger on what his problem is, but I do think it's the mental/confidence side as he does have some talent (however it may have been hidden for most of his time at the Lane).
