Fiery , perhaps the Whinges and Whiners have a right to moan. Yes Clough has made some mistakes , but the crux of it all , they were basic fundemental mistakes . That i think is the issue . Lets hope for us all , he bucks the trend , and comes to basic football senses. I am sure the board weren't happy bunnies all the time.

We actually don't ask for much IMO.

Mistakes I wouldn't expect any good manager to make. A fairly long list of them. And no indications that he'll ever change or improve.

If we'd lost in the play-offs after a season of playing brave exciting football, bringing in talented but raw players and players for the furute, then I'd be quite happy with the season. The fact we failed playing boring, turgid, negative football with players who seemed to lack motivation, with a manger who seemed completely oblivious to the obvious issues, is just unacceptable.

You know what,

I have hardly ever worked for a good manager.

I've generally worked for self-centred people who thought very highly of their own ability but were by and large regarded as incompetent by the workforce. If they weren't the owners of the company then their only real ability was in currying favour with their bosses through sycophancy and its twin, obsequiousness. - think Smithers from "The Simpsons"

Aren't their only real qualifications to always to blame someone else and show a bit more selfish ambition than the rest of us?

80% of TV interviews I've seen with football managers seem to revolve around blaming;
a. the referee
b. an opposition player (who the referee didn't see, 1. was offside, 2. was playing his player on-side, 3. fouled his player)
c. his own player (although the most successful managers hardly ever do this publicly)*

* but I suspect they blame their own players when they are talking to their bosses in private. I'll assume ambition is a prerequisite.

So aren't football managers just the same as any other manager....?

cf. the Peter Principle

(I'm not particularly referring to Nigel Clough in the above diatribe.....I'd quite like to see the team selected by a weekly ballot of season ticket holders)

Although pro Clough but now sat on the fence . Robbie , your post really sums up the feelings , i believe of the majority of fans . All Clough will do next season , is try and put right the fundamental mistakes he made this season . The only reason he is still in a job , is due to the stability card . If it was my money , due i think he his the correct manager to use some some due diligence , and maximise return- NO.

Everybody deserves a second chance , but have we really progressed . From 7th to 5th , you could say yes. The bottom line , if we had sorted out the basics , we would have got promoted .

Problem with the argument for progression in league positions is that last year's includes Weir's spell. I'm pretty sure someone posted Clough's record from last season and this, and we've done worse this season.

At this moment in time, I can't see him taking us up through automatic promotion.
