Not sure if posted on wrong page.
My son playing for Westfield school on Tuesday at Lane. Getting his dream of playing on hallowed turf. This is the oldest school cup trophy. So looking forward to it

Hope he really enjoys it and remembers it when he's a lot older.

HBJnr is also getting to play on United's pitch in a Cup Final, although it's Bedworth United. (In fact, he has two Cup Finals there this year as his team pushes for a Treble)*

To get to a Final is no mean achievement and I hope chesblade jnr has a fantastic time and gets the right result!

Exactly we should feel proud of them and what better stage to play on. Hope some of the players will be there to see what it means to young fans to play at Bramall Lane and how much endeavour they put into playing their game

The whole group were sat right in front of us yesterday, I couldn't work out who they were or why they were there until they were introduced at half-time. Their record of being unbeaten in three school years is very impressive.

Most of them didn't look that excited by the football, I hope your lad's not mixing with grunters :-)

Great night for your lad, one he'll remember for life.
And add to that the history of the Clegg Shield, this trophy named after the famous Clegg (well one of them anyway) who was instrumental in the playing, Reffing and and administratoring football from its infancy, he is following in the footsteps of some notable local footballers who have played in this final.
In my day it was the FA Cup equivalent of Sheffield Schools football and contested at U15 level (the U16's being the Witherford Cup).
Also interesting to note the catchment areas of the two schools involved. A discussion point for where the best lads at football originate.

You do realise Bramall Lane will drain any talent straight out of his boots ............................ ;)

That was the year 9s who are unbeaten since they started playing together in year 7. It's the year 11 that's in the trophy final. Some good players at that school. Hoping for a Westfield win

Pleased to hear my old school doing well.

Unless I'm missing someone obvious, the best player to come from Westfield School is probably Chris Marsden.

Is this the same as the South Yorks Schools Cup?

As I understood it, winners of the Rotherham Schools cup, Barnsley Schools cup, Sheffield S.C. and Donny S.C., then played each other in a semi-final with the final a few years ago being held at the Academy

No. The sy cup is a full competition involving every school in South Yorkshire while the national cup involves every single school team in England (that must be a headache for the organisers).

Cheers for explaining

Lad won it twice in 3 years. Captained the second win by default. Y11 and 6th form in his last year. Managed to get to see the second win at the academy 3-1. Forgot who they beat, although it was a Sheffield School

The lads year never did owt in National Cup, although the year a few years above him actually won it. Reyt achievement!

Have a great time and I hope you will be leaving with the cup, good luck to your lad and his team

What school would that be for then?

PS. I may have got the years wrong. It could've been first year in 6th form and Y10 rather than second year 6th form and Y11

My fkin memory these days ffs :D

Knowing me, I've probably got the lot wrong :D

My nipper is gutted !
he played in goal for Tapton two years running when they won it both times - when Aymen Tahar "ran" the midfield for them (not sure United actually approved or even know he played)

Westfield were winning 3-0 the last I saw, what was the full time score anyone?

I think I was in his year at Tapton 6th form, and thinking about it i've seen him (and I would assume by extension you) at plenty of away matches in the last few years.

JS is his initials - as for away games ,yes we've done a few, although not as many as we would have liked. Just been too inconsistent to go to lots of away games.

Love away games more than home tbh - great atmosphere when we are doing well .

Great performance by the Westfield Lads on Tuesday, thoroughly enjoyed it. I was always hopeful of a win after they were drawn as the away team! ;-)

Great to see the old old school producing some good footballing talent. My youngest is part of the Y9's who will play in the final of the National Cup at the Majedski Stadium in May so hoping they can make it a double.

Massive praise to SUFC and especially Sue Beeley for all the time and effort...UTB
