What was that all about?

Did his shirt get pulled off by a Wigan player? How did the ref not book him for playing in skins (well, base layer)?
Never seen anything like that before. The defender was pulling Clark’s shirt up, Clark leaned forward and put his arms up and the shirt came off. Clark grabbed it off him and as they broke, he ran all the way back to our area shirt in hand.

I thought the ref should have stopped play for Clark to get dressed. A flapping shirt being carried is a potential danger if a player trips over it, but the ref took no action of any sort.

I know it’s a yellow for a player taking his own shirt off, it should be a yellow for an opposition player undressing a player from the other team, in order to gain an advantage 🙂

It’s another one of the peculiarities of United’s history now, like when Scougal was literally thrown to the floor by a wrestling move and when we scored a goal with goal line technology in play, but it still didn’t count.

How it’s not a penalty for taking another player’s shirt off their back, is beyond me.

"A flapping shirt being carried is a danger" 🤣

Surely ref should have blown for a foul on Clark. Can only have come off because it was pulled by Wigan player And that’s a foul. Never seen anything like it before.
spot on penalty all night long mind those officials were garbage lilt should have seen red and their goal was well offside where the hell was the linesman

When I saw him running down the field I thought it was a premature or belated goal celebration.

They talked about the Baldock handball at length but fail to see how this isn't a pen by the letter of the law.
He's had his shirt pulled off him.

I also thought Sharp going down after halftime looked a poss pen too, their player didn't get the ball.

There was considerable pushing and shoving this match mainly instigated I felt by Wigan players in both boxes.
Also that Tilt should have seen a 2nd yellow for at least 2 incidents after his first.

The only defence for the ref is that it was a unique event and he couldn’t fathom out what had happened. If tugging a shirt is a foul, then taking one off an opponent’s back has to be a penalty. And a red card for attempted theft?🤣

I thought refs were clamping down on shirt pulling.

Even when Clark's shirt was fully off, the Wigan number 4 was still holding it and Clark was literally trying to get it back from him! I'd love to know the ref's thought process when he saw it as he was right next to it.

Wigan appear appeared to be grappling fans at every set piece. My favourite was when they had a corner near the end and one of their players quite blatantly had Clark in a bear hug, to stop him tracking his man. Ref gave nowt despite looking straight at it.

The Wigan player didnt have a pen or a sign so he couldnt write "Clark can I have your shirt" and hold it up after the match so he thought I know what I`ll try and nick it off at a corner.

It was one of the most bizarre things I've seen at a football match. In the away end I was only aware of Clark running back shirtless and didn't know what had caused it be removed. There were a few amusing black comments that Clark should have been booked for taking his shirt off.

I can understand why the referee might not have seen the actual shirt pulling but you would think one of the other three officials might have drawn attention to it. I only understood what had happened when I saw the highlights today. Surely VAR would have given a penalty - or maybe should have, because you can't rely on that either!

Dont know if the telly picked it up, but they showed a replay of of Wigans obviously offside goal before we kicked off, which resulted in our end going apeshit, Utd players appealing to the ref and the lino disappearing up his own arse.
Goal stood, rules is rules.

As for Clark, my first thought was an infiltrator ,as it happened at the far end , thought process was whos that stupid twat, what a shit streaker.

The official's were fuckin rubbish! Tilt should have gone, Clarke having his shirt ripped of was a pen, and don't get me started on there offside goal. Sky commentators, what a load of biased bastards!!

Absolutely, takes every chance to run us down but accepts commentary fees on our games..

Thought he was gonna come in his jeans at one point going on about Wigan..

Whilst we were 2 up...

He was willing them on to get another goal. Why do we always seem to get either Hinchcliffe or Hendrie on co comms.

You look back in the cold light of day and there were a few incidents that got totally the wrong weight to them.

Tilt having already been booked. Instead of laughing off Clark losing his shirt they should have been questioning why that wasn't a penalty for shirt pulling, given this was an example in the extreme. It would also have probably been a second yellow.

They should have also been examining why Tilt didn't get a yellow, which would also have been a red, for a challenge that was no softer than the one for which Egan took a booking when he fouled McAtee.

The theme of the first half should have been this - how did Tilt escape two yellows?

Another potential talking point that they completely failed to pick up in the second half was when Sharp got crowded out. He was impeded. That should have been a strong penalty shout. I don't remember them cleanly tackling him and the commentators paid it no service at all.

There is then the handball by Baldock. It was hit at point blank range. His arm was in against his body in front of him. They didn't once show a straight on angle, maybe they didn't have it, and they didn't once debate that the ref probably concluded his arm was not in an unnatural position and therefore it may not be a penalty.

Then you had their goal, in which they had two players offside, both interefering with play which was a potential howler by the linesman. Foderingham got a strong hand on it was also the completely wrong take IMHO. It was poor keeping. He needed to move his feet to get onto it, not just palm it out. In fact if he'd just stopped it and not pushed it straight to the forwards he might have still had time to get his other hand to it.

So far, two potential instances where the same player should have seen red and two potential penalty calls, an offside goal and a keeping error and somehow the narrative seemed to develop as Wigan were unlucky in the end because they should have had a penalty but the ref missed it!
