Sounded really unlucky today when we had that great chance missed, just moments before they scored.

Did we create enough overall to call ourselves unlucky?

The photo below shows last season's chance convertion in the Premiership:

For what they call clear-cut chance convertion, these were the stats:

So the question is, do we create enough chances, and are we unlucky to be 17th, 11 points behind Leyton Orient?

It's not unlucky when you miss an open goal under no pressure then get yourself sent off 5 minutes later for a stupid challenge. That's just poor.

We didn't deserve to lose because MK Dons were even worse than us - but the lack of quality all over the pitch is painful to watch. We missed 2 sitters but apart from that never looked like scoring. We only had to defend one thing in the 2nd half and failed to do that.

Up front in particular we are dire. I thought Taylor might do ok for us but he doesn't look up to it. Ironside is even worse.

The way we allowed them a free header to score was shocking - Coady at fault I think - another player who has failed to perform so far.

In summary - shite again.

Didn't look like scoring all game; the only players IMO that looked likely were Baxter and Brandy when he came on. Really can't believe how crap we are in the final 3rd.

Would 4-4-2 give Taylor better support?

MK Dons played awful football, the keeper would pass the ball to a defender and then gets the ball back before passing it to another defender. MK Dons have always been good at set pieces and 2 of their last 3 goals against us were from set pieces and the other was from a penalty. We have been poor at set pieces for a long time (apart from Ched's crackers)

Agree with Deano, MK were piss poor, we were a bit better and failed to turn it to our advantage. Brandy's miss was Blooper DVD stuff and you just knew we'd pay the ultimate price for it. An unnecessary free kick given away, who's picking Kay up? and its in the net... cue boos, disappointment and the (over egged) high expectations after yesterday dowsed completely.
Baxter - not always in the game but did some stuff to suggest he has quality and at 21 his best days yet to come.
Taylor - Not up to it at all, whether 4-2-3-1, 4-4-2, 2-3-5, he's got none of the qualities that I look for in a front man.

We gave MK little encouragement as our back four with Hill/McMahon restored looked more sound, they had no chances and one set piece shafts us.
We need the striker who will come in before the deadline and I think he'll give us strength and a bit of nous plus an eye for goal at this level. (He might not please some of the thickos that hold former clubs against players though;))
The Belgian bloke will improve us too but even the possible 3 incomings might not be enough for us to be serious contenders (for promotion that is!)
Finally, neck on block - we'll go to New York Stadium next week and come home with 3 points :)

LSF on Taylor, I thought last week that he wasnt given the balls that he needed. Like Ched, it looks like he needs to get the right service because he can't play the role that perhaps Shipperly or Cresswell could... It seemed v Bradford that he was crying out for through balls to run onto, not playing with his back to goal, perhaps like Miller in that sense

hope your not on about leon clarke aside from the fact he Is an odious twat he also loks like a stroke victim

Sorry Swiss, I really do try to see some positives in all players we sign but this lad appears to be less than average in areas of strength, pace, hold up play. Willing maybe, but so he should be. As disappointing as the pale shadow aka Jamie Murphy....

That's fair enough, it wasn't a dig, just genuinely interested as I thought Taylor just wasn't getting it where he wanted last week.

I reckon he'll come good, but he needs to start forcing the midfield to play him in otherwise he'll continue to get hauled off.

We've seen it before with Billy and Ched, they look uninterested when they know they're not getting what they want, but they are still expected to run around and put a shift in. Yet when they finally get it how they want they look different players...

I guess we'll see.

Coady lost his man completely, but what I couldn't understand was why he was picking up their big centre half and Maguire was marking Lewington.

this defeat & the manor of the loss will have crushed any morale that was left in the dressing room. Especially brandy.
Weir has a job on his hands big time now.

Maguire marked Lewington all match at set plays. He (Coady) was in the right back position for the ste piece where was Mc Mahon?
PS I think Coady was the man who dropped back to cover the full backs whenever they went forward but he is shockingly bad at it. Slow, weak in the tackle, poor in the air and lacking that explosive pace to get back and make the last ditch block to prevent the cross coming in

Did we create enough overall to call ourselves unlucky?

We were unlucky to lose today but other than the two sitters, we didn't create many chances. Not that surprising when we're playing two holding midfielders AND two full backs who aren't good at getting forward and creating.

I think Weir started out with good intentions of playing attractive, attacking football but his sides are gradually getting more and more defensive as he tries to make them more solid while persisting with his pet formation.

We didn't look like conceding today other than through the late set piece, so the solid full backs worked BUT I think he needed to sacrifice an holding midfielder in order to give us a greater threat up front.

He could have done this either by inverting the midfield triangle and pushing Coady (or Mcginn) up alongside Baxter. Or by switching to 4-4-2 and playing Baxter as an orthodox attacking central midfielder.

Personally, I think we now have a better squad than last season but Weir is not currently getting as much as he could out of them. We'd probably have at least 2 or 3 extra points if we'd played a more attacking/orthodox style.

Not hoof, still passing but with more attacking options on the pitch.
