It's probably a cost and set up issue. You have to have a contract with the merchant provider set up, a decent wifi connection or phone line point/ phone contract and the terminals are usually leased with monthly payments. You also need to train the staff to use them - they're pretty simple but staff need to know what to do when something goes wrong.
It's all possible, of course, but as I said on the other thread, for the few minutes of business that is done per month at SUFC it's probably expecting a bit much.
What’s Oxford’s excuse then? I got a pie on my card there 2 years ago

What's that all about?

Sufc kiosks and some pubs when I’m out drinking only are the only places where I pay by cash. Everywhere else I try to pay by Apple Pay

Loads of pubs now take card so it won’t be long before I stop taking out cash for the pub.

They do, however the problem I have with it is the security and convenience at the bar. As well as a little courtesy to those around.

I only use Apple Pay contactless as it’s done on the finger print and not just the tap of a card

Firstly the machines are normally placed around the tills, fine if it’s not too busy but if you have to shove through busy bar to get to the till and then back to get your drinks it’s a slower process

Security concerns I have are that even with the finger print technology there is a worry that someone nearby can intercept it ( no idea how but in a busy bar and a bit of tech knowhow I’m sure it could be done)

So for now, handing a £10/20 note over is fine

Ever been at Bramall Lane when the 4G grinds to a halt at half-time because so many people are using it?

Then don't use 3G for the readers (you don't need to have a signal on your phone for it to work). Use a fixed broadband connection or business "hidden" WiFi

As I say, it can all be done, but all these things take a lot of setting up and have costs. If Oxford have got it sorted and it's making profit, good for them, or alternatively it isn't making profit but they want it as part of their matchday package. For a long time now SUFC have opted to contract out to outside caterers and for the life of me I can't see how it can be worth it for them, which is why I suspect anything that costs the slightest amount is avoided. Any type of investment by them into payment systems, catering equipment or well trained capable staff will make little commercial sense to them.
Maybe the club needs to have a re-think about what it wants to do with catering. Maybe the club should invest in new kiosks all wired in before finding caterers that will offer a good service, rather than the most money. Then things might change, though I still can't see there ever being much in the way of quality on offer.
It would take someone at the top with some sort of vision for catering at the Lane. Is there anyone who cares that much about it?

Cost and set up issue? Don't these caterers have a Money Tree like us?

Bit left field, but what we could do with are machines placed around the city where you can draw your cash out or a system in shops and supermarkets, where you can get money when you buy your tampax. They could call it cashback or something.

May take a bit of forward planning but saves the time looking up at the cash only sign, down to the card in your hand and back up again with that gormless but frustrated look on your face, as starvation and dehydration both enter the second stage.
Visionary. You'll go far.

On a slightly unrelated note, I was told that switching back to 3G is the best option when this happens. I have no idea why, but it seems to work.

I thought it was backward here in Oz! Christ, I was moving back for a better life. Perhaps I shouldn't have bought so heavily into the heat wave after all.
