That's what that was.

Dont these train together? Doesnt look like they're reading the same book. I appreciate it's a team with 10 changes but ffs show some of what you're paid for! No even a decent individual performance from anyone as compensation. Actually looked more disjointed than the Blackburn game.

Very disappointing. Well done sunland. Even though you were barely better than our lot.

Flat 3 in midfield created nothing. I’m unsure why we didn’t revert back to our old system.

'Like' for the title of the thread I'm a bit pissed but giggling like a baby with a balloon.

This has really hurt. After Saturday and last night and laughing at the results, this feels awful, in fact we look silly. Let’s look forward to smashing Liverpool!

Second half was woeful. We thought first half was ok, given it was a slung together side.

In general, though ... several players looking like they were playing to avoid contact/injury (inc Ravel standing off their man who smacked the goal, Power?) ... others conspicuously avoiding putting too much effort in (K Freeman made 2-3 offensive forward runs from right back in the whole game) ... Stearman looked steady one moment then stearmanned the next ... and Moore was beaten from distance with a clear sight of the ball, just like old times (memries).

Besic deserves his MOM, if it was given for first half performance, but drifted out of the game for long spells second half.

Leon!

Ropey ref.

Not a great night.

That is all.

You look silly, no one else.

Watching tonight reminded me of watching some United matches years ago.
You could tell the players had individual ability but we looked so dis jointed, it’s as though they had just met.
Best player for us was either Besic or Mousset, thought Ravel was ineffective as though he wasn’t trying but his team mates often looked dis interested too.
Apathy is like a desease, it was in the crowd and spreading around all the players, there was a really strong pre season friendly attitude everywhere apart from in the Sunderland team, they weren’t great but defended well and were up for it. Can’t deny they deserved the win.

I’m sorry but see for the next cup game... i would rather they came out and told us they don’t come and give a fuck because I ain’t wasting my money watching that.

Was the Blackburn performance or Wilder’s post game interview not enough clue? He couldn’t remember what the name of the competition was. :)

I went tonight just to learn a bit more about the new players. No more than that.

This is a world where hundreds of millions of pounds depends on one competition. Nowt else matters until you’re a club assured of staying up. Sad but true.

They must have worked bloody hard in training on how to look so hopeless.

I'd give them credit for that but I thought it was too obvious so I won't.

In the NFL, the Miami Dolphins are deliberately losing their games to ensure the best picks in next years draft. For some reason, I was reminded of that tonight.

Would you make any changes from tonight's line up?

Aren’t there any rules against that? Seems stupid if there isn’t.

Well you can't deliberately throw a game on the night - that's match fixing, as it would be here. What Miami have done is build a squad for this season that can't possibly compete. All their good players have been traded for future draft picks, with the aim of putting together a good team in the next couple of years.

Obviously! Hendo for Moore and we’re good to go
The same Moore who was our best player in the last round? Really dont see why people are outraged and shocked about last night's result. The team were lucky to beat Blackburn and given Wilders comments about his interest in the competition, no one should be surprised. I for one would give anything to see us lift some silverware but sadly, it's no longer a priority it seems.

Take a look again. It was a tongue in cheek comment mate
;)

We did, Freeman played the Duffy role second half.
Our system doesn’t work if the defence ( including wing big backs ) are so static
They moved the ball so slowly side to side and backwards all night

I don't think 3 at the back worked that well with those players.

The only options this works with is if you have JOC on the left and Basham on the right. At a push when Enda deputises for Jack it still functions.

Both Stearman and Jags are more Egan types. And I'm not convinced Bryan is good enough in a conventional role, nevermind a hybrid one.

I wonder if we were not just better going:

Moore
Freeman Jags Stearman Bryan
Morrison Besic Freeman Osborn
Robinson Mousset

Or arguably more suited:

Moore
Freeman Jags Stearman Bryan
Besic Osborn
Morrison Robinson Freeman
Mousset

I assumed it was a League one Theme Night...

League One opposition
League One reminiscent queues in the family stand
League One queues in the Beer Engine
League One Performance on the pitch...

I kind of enjoyed the misty eyed memories of not having to queue for a piss and being able to get out of the ground in under 2 mins!!

Obviously disappointed to lose, I always am but CW made it quite clear beforehand that he wasn't bothered about the Cup so it's a bit difficult to criticize the players for putting in minimal effort....having said that you would have thought one or two of them, (Ravel, Besic, L Freeman) might have wanted to give him something to think about.

What it does demonstrate is that our strength in depth is rubbish, a few injuries/suspensions and we could be in a bit of bother.
