I reckon Brooks' development is going well as it is, but for him to take it to the next level he needs a few starts this season. Those games have got to be very carefully picked, rather than throwing him in for the sake of it. The criteria in an ideal world would be:

- Away from home
- Against a 'lesser side'
- In a winning, confident team with good recent form
- Against a defence that looks susceptible to being run at

The Bolton game looks like it meets most of those. Throw in the fact that we have a few injuries upfront and his recent good form, I can see Wilder tweaking the system and playing Brooks and Duffy in behind Clarke. Billy can come on as Duffy's tiring and give their defenders something else to think about.

I'm not then advocating Brooks starting every week, I think it'll be horses for courses and we'll see more of him in tricky away games to ensure we control the midfield with Fleck, Coutts, Duffy and Brooks all buzzing around.

I also see Billy as a 'home' player where he'll start in the home games as we're creating more chances and generally having more of the ball and playing higher up the pitch. Sharp looks bang average when he comes deep to collect it, but a world beater when in the 6 yard box. I think he had a quiet game against Sunderland because he was having to come from deep too often and it doesn't suit his game. Now we've got The Don, he looks perfect as a partner for Bill in the home games and perfect as the target man in away games.

It's all about options, and we look to have several at the minute. Also, shout out to our back 5 today, they all looked really solid and will have been disappointed to concede the consolation late on. Lovely that we still have another back 5 in the squad that'd probably win league one. Lafferty-Heneghan-Wright-CCV-Baldock all waiting for their chance. Good time to be a Blade!

Assuming Clayton misses out, Leon will start.

But expect Brooks to get 30 mins or so off the bench.

I'm worried about how long Donaldson gonna be out for but it's up to Clarke to keep the shirt now and score some goals.

But if you are Leon aren't you looking at havingto up your game now? Great to have competition for places. Just need a fully fit and firing Ched now.

If Brooksy is to start games, better hurry up, rag reporting this morning Everton favs to sign him

Wonder if we'll shift a few more tickets after yesterdays showing? £32 a pop though the robbing dogs

For his development it probably works in his favour that Duffy can't always complete the 90 mins - and doesn't mind coming off even when playing well.

Atm having him come on for the final 30 mins against a tiring defence is ideal. But agree there will be games where it would do him good to get a few starts.

Rehashed report from earlier in the season.

We won't sell Brooks this season.

Next summer on the other hand...

I hope you're right, but based on what exactly FB?

My opinion is that if the right bid is received, he will go

My hope is that prospective bidders and there will be some, make derisory bids and the club take a leaf out of Southends book and say "no" History is against us tho.

Nothing is more satisfying than turning up at the Lane and being able to witness our young talent progress and grow in a red and white shirt

Clarke's not going to be available so it'll either be Evans and Sharp or Brooks and Duffy behind Sharp.

I wouldn't rule out some other changes either, it might be a time to rotate.

Why is Clarke not available?

Thought he was suspended yesterday?

Yep, you're right. Had it in my head that he would've been available yesterday.

Still don't think he'll play at Bolton though if he was on crutches a few days ago.

Clark was suspended yesterday and apparently mussed the photo call on Thursday As he went for a scan on an ankle injury but no one seems to know the outcome of the scan and whether he will subsequently be available for Bolton.

Didn't realise he'd been on crutches, that's a blow...

Like above, don't underestimate Bolton, they are still battling to try and get something. I didn't think they played that bad against Leeds, and Middlesbough despite the scorelines. They will single our game out to try and win

Let's get as many points on the board as we can. We've had a brilliant start but it's only going to get harder as teams gell and injuries and suspensions kick in.

Surely better to provide competition by having ready-made replacement(s) ready to step in, rather than when somebody is injured? We're paying for last-minute let-downs on TDD and the weakness up front could negate our great start. We've been relying on Billy far too much over the last two seasons and age may be catching up (substituted in 4 out of 6 games so far this season). Jury's out on Ched, Clayton could be out for weeks. Spread too thin up front.

That would be the "bang average deep Sharp" who played a great ball through from just the area you are talking about, for Clayton first yesterday?

Wasn't having a pop at Billy. He's my favourite player probably. I was just saying he has his off days occasionally, it's not like he turns into a different player overnight, it's just that it usually correlates with the games where he has to come deep more. I've always seen him as an amazing poacher but not necessarily got the attributes to create an awful lot for himself the higher up the leagues he goes. That's just not the type of player he is, but he'll always score goals at any level if he gets the chances. He struggles when up top on his own in a 451 or when he gets isolated up there. Not knocking him at all. It was a great ball for the first goal.

Agree but we are where we are.
