It wasn't a marauding, counter attacking Clough type cup performance but I though we were brilliant.
The only player who was ineffective was Sharp and that was no fault of his own.
I won't name all the players I always praise, I will go for 4 which I'm really proud of today in particular; Woolford, Sammon, McEveley and Long.
I've held back praising Jay for a while because it makes me the worlds biggest humble pie eater-but he was colossal tonight.
Sod it, I will resort back to the usual suspects again. Bash, Coutts and Brayford, Fantastic!
Take confidence from how we played tonight boys, we pressed, we were organised, we defended brilliantly.
Now, on to another cup final Tuesday.

Yep - very organised - so if we go 1 nil up we should be able to defend any lead!

Really? I thought Sammon was far more ineffective than Sharp. He never held the ball up at all and won very little in the air.

Agree with that. I was disappointed that Done, or even Adams, wasn't brought on for Sammon – he was never going to be able to sprint for the balls we just lumped up to the channels.

I thought Sammon was woeful. Won nothing useful in the air, ball bounced off him and never made himself an outlet like Sharp did. He put a shift in but achieved very little.

Praise for Adkins as well. I was worried we'd be chasing shadows because we couldn't be as aggressive as we've been in the league, and because a team with an average age of almost 30 would struggle to keep up with Premiership players over 90 minutes. Man Utd really are in trouble. When they eventually added pace and skill with their substitutions I think Adkins reacted well with his subs, who helped reduce their impact. It would have been interesting though to see what would have happened if we'd introduced Adams and Done a bit earlier to ask a few more questions of them defensively. But we were three minutes from a very creditable and deserved draw I felt. That is very impressive and I was proud to be a Blade tonight. They mentioned my name on TV up here before the game as I helped them with some info on the Blades. This photo was also shown:

Nobody rated Sammon today at all?
We already know he's not an aerial threat but I thought he worked his arse off for the team.
He tracked back constantly and never shirked his defensive duties.

He did work very hard but he was completely useless as an outlet. Every time the ball came up to him he lost it.

Exactly. He gets grief for not doing things he's not really in the team for. Played his part in our only (?) shot on target by Bash, after Sharp went off.

I think they all played well.
Have to say the stars of the day were the fans. Watched it on TV and they sang their hearts out. Fantastic advert for Sheffield United. Well done to all the lads and lasses that went. You did us proud.

Yes, like the rest of the team he also deserves praise for his hard work.
He's not a prolific goal scorer, he's not Rob Hulse and he's a million miles off being James Beattie.
Today though, he worked hard. He pressed and I think Nigel left him on as long as he did because of his tireless work rate. Nobody wanted to see an injection of pace more than I did but I could understand Nigel's logic a bit tonight.
Oh, and I've got that blades email who's from your neck of the woods....

I wonder what we could have done if we'd've attacked a bit sooner.

They looked so poor and demoralised we might have finished them off.

I thought we did well when we had to but they were awful.

Maybe they would have countered and run through us. Who knows?

Really pleased with the performance and today we were a winger and striker away from really causing them an issue. Out now which I am really glad about. Can we get back to the task in hand now please.

I'm sorry but Sammon is v poor. All this praise for his tracking back etc, am I missing something but is he not in the side to make & score goals? The miss in the ;last minute against Bradford summed him up for me. He needs to be on the bench at best.

Woolford, J Mac &Long were good, Sammon No no no!

Thought we did ok. Certainly worked hard but Man u looked as awful going forward as they have against everyone else. Posh were far more dangerous. Sammon was terrible. As a big target man you want him holding the ball up, but everything ended up bouncing miles away from him. Coutts did well at times and acted suicidal at others. We move on.

How many times did the commentator praise our fans?!
We've had it tough, we are a demanding mardy bunch at times too, but when it matters- we are one of the best

Sammon was poor today his first touch at times was awful and he started to remind me of Chris Porter. Don't get me wrong he put a lot of effort in but he was rather ineffective.

He's in the side for lots of reasons the main one is he holds the ball up well. And his distribution is good.

I thought it was significant that our only shot on target came after Billy went off (not a dog - it wasn't Billy's sort of game), Sammon went up front on his own, and started well played a part in that move.

He's not Brian Deane which seems to be his main failing.

(And Woolford - another player who's had relentless grief but did very well today - is not Jamie Murphy.)

I thought Sammon was shite quite frankly, but that's par for the course. Any chance we had of looking like a threat vanished with Sharp going off.

Our only shot on target (Bash's left foot screamer) came from a move when Sammon retained possession, after Billy went off.

Sammon holds the ball up well? Really? Wow.

His main failing is thst he is rubbish. Other than that you've nailed it. :)

Thought it was an excellent performance, but one has to wonder why we can't defend like that every game? Of course the answer is simple, we raised our game against Manchester United. Which in my humble opinion shows that a few of our players believe their own hype.

Brilliant is probably stretching it a bit. I thought we defended fantastically with every player putting in a real shift and the team never lost it's shape and organisation. We restricted them to hardly any chances until the penalty. However when we had the ball we were really poor and barely retained the ball for more than a few seconds. As NA says its all about keeping it out at one end and putting it in the other. We did the first part really well but didn't really make any serious effort to do the second. Mention also to the fans who were loud and proud throughout.

Just gutted to play great. That defence was most solid ive seen it for long while. McEveley & Collins were very good (that got to be under. things I never thought id say in 2016) for majority that back 4 cut out threat of the £130m attack mata martial herrera Rooney & as the cliche goes its the hope that kills to be within touching distance of replay. which wouldve been amazing night

Although abit like hull Semi I wasn't too disappointed with defeat for reasons above I wouldn't be surprised if we came out 'happier' of the 2 fans & they won

Good to hear sane mufc fans on 606 Id have been embarrassed to gloat when a 240m team needed a 90min pen to beat mid table L1 side. LVG is nuts trying to deflect criticism onto us. Shrewsbury managed to get 4 v us, yet he struggled to get 1

Fantastic defensive display but we never looked a threat at all going forward and I think had we brought Adams/JCR/Done on for the last 15 minutes then would have terrified Newton Heath.

Re Sammon, he's wank but his job today was to play in midfield and help out defensively and I thought he did a decent job TBH.

Think I'd have to give MOM to McEveley.
