BladesPod: Season Retrospective - Part 1

Morning all,

Bit later than planned, but I wanted to do an in-depth retrospective on the whole season, in which we go through each game and try to remember how we felt at the time - and here's part 1. Starting way back in June 2018 with the signing of Dean Henderson, right through preseason and then into the season itself, finishing on Dec 29 with the win over Blackburn.

Really great reminisce.
Going back to the Derby at home game my recollection is that what really sparked the crowd was the ref not giving a penalty when Didsy was through and was clearly pushed in the back to stop him scoring. Then Derby went up the field were awarded a free kick on the edge of our area from which Wilson scored. The crowd were so incensed by the failure to award us the penalty then Derby getting a free kick and goal the atmosphere just took off and the team were just roared on for the rest of the game and responded with a great performance.

For me there were several big moments in the season.

Derby was the one where, after early December where we were well off the pace and people had almost written the season off by the weekend before xmas, Derby was the one where i thought "yep, we're in this again"

The win against QPR was a biggie, kick started our season and settled the nerves

(Biggest moment though was West Brom away)

Yeah I've got no real defence for that one, maybe I should blame my dad for lack of education. At least I was honest enough to leave that part in!

Trying to work it out, he might have to move to "occasional guest" rather than "podcast regular" though! But I'll see what we can do.

Nice to re-live that 6 game run with hindsight.

I wasn't angry at Wilder or the lads, just felt distraught that no matter how well we did, we were just not good enough.
