Evening all,

Roygbiv back from his holiday to talk about the comeback at Chelsea with me, including:

  • drilling into the improved performance after half-time (12:50)
  • McBurnie and Robinson's performance (32:16)
  • a cameo from the Moose (38:52)
  • Garth Crooks and basic football (45:45)

And a few other things as well.

Thanks, as always, for listening, and UTB!

Meant Andrew cos this post is from Ben himself right?

You both mention that you didn’t see Mousey against Blackburn.
It wasn’t that Mousey played well, it was more about the effect he had when he came on.

McBurnie and Sharp both looked surprisingly really poor. The Blackburn defenders bullied both of them all night winning almost every single header.
Mousset comes on and gives us a noticeable physical presence, he won a few headers and the Blackburn defenders seemed a bit intimidated.
Also Mousset showed the odd burst of speed and flew past their defenders, who all of a sudden looked panicky eveytime the ball went near Mouse.
However when Mousset had the ball he didn’t do that much. So the praise he received was more based on the potential he showed against Blackburn.
I know Moussey is a similisr size and colour but he really reminded me of a raw Brian Deane, lets hope he can be as good.

Also agree......I also think we are just feeling our way into the league and we’ll get better as the season progresses.

Heard you talking about pundits and it reminded me of what was said on the Hawksby and Jacobs show this afternoon.

Paul Hawksby is a big Spurs fan and Andy Jacobs is a big Chelsea fan.
His review of the game was how Chelsea were fairly good first half but totally switched off second half and let Sheffield United into the game.
He slagged off the right back Asperlequeta (whatever his name), then he criticised Frank Lampards substitutions saying although Chelsea were playing poorly if they had brought on an extra defender Johsnson they could have managed out a win.

Paul Hawksby said “you’ve talked about how poor Chelsea were but maybe Sheff Utd deserve credit.
Maybe there’s a case that Sheff Utd were good and made Chelsea look poor”.

Jacobs laughed and said “That’s wasn’t the case... Sheffield United looked very ordinary lacking top quality”
‘Put it this way ....if they play like that against Man City with overlapping centre backs they’ll get murdered”.

On the Talksport late light Sports Bar show there was a Sheffield United fan calling the station about Saturdays result.

Jason Cundy admitted that SU were easily the best side in the 2nd half.
He admitted that he was surprised and impressed with our attacking style of play in that 2nd half.
He said we looked so well drilled as a team and he’s been very impressed with Wilders attitude during interviews.
He admitted that pre-season he predicted we’d be one of the relegated teams.
But admitted that he’s probably wrong, based on what he’s seen, if we keep it up, then we’ll stay up no problem.

Good pod - on McBurnie, I think we fell into the Madine trap of using him as a crutch in the first half - just hoof it because he's big and he might get his head on it. Eventually with Madine we calmed down and started playing it to feet more, I expect similar to happen with McBurnie - also our corners were mostly awful, which doesn't help him in his quest to be useful.

Needs better service and his team mates not to panic on the ball. It'll come.

It's a running joke he never gives the opposition credit when they get a result against Chelsea

I heard that as well driving home , surprised me a bit
Said we deserved something out of the game and the equaliser didn't come as a shock

Another good one lads and having moaned at you several times in the past, I feel compelled to tell you that the sound is now spot on (for this old fart).

Frank for Ingerland? Might be worth a sneak punt, although once again he might find himself behind Stevie G, who is also doing a 'wonderful job' (2nd in a 2 team league), in the eyes of Garth Crooks and his lazy ilk.

Thought it was such a weird comment trying to negatively compare us to Man City....saying how we’ll get thrashed.
When the truth is 80% of the PL teams (including Chelsea) are likely to be thrashed by Man City.

It's a backhanded compliment really

I don’t mind Hawksby the Spurs fan but I can’t stand Jacobs always comes across as a sanctimonious cunt.

Totally agree, Hawksby is knowledgable and very respectful of other clubs, similar attitude to Colin Murray, where as Jacobs is a football snob (superior and dismissive).

The following is the type of stuff Jacobs has said in the past.

‘Yeh I know Huddersfield might have beat us (Chelsea) but I could never watch that team. I can’t stand defensive park the bus football...i’ll rather my team play in league 1 or league 2, whatever it’s called these days, rather than see the negative dull football that Huddersfield produced’.

Or what about “Champions league should have a separate competition for the minnows....come on...who wants to watch Chelsea play Slavia Prague”

Or “VAR should be scrapped, yeh I know our goal was disallowed for offside,...but he was only offside by a few inch...so should counted because we were the better team on the day and deserved a goal”

Or “The PL should put a barrier on clubs like Huddersfield, Burnley and Swansea being promoted. I’m not being funny but they should automatically put Leeds and Nottingham Forest in the PL to make the league more attractive”

Or “We’ve drawn Rochdale Rovers in the cup....don’t know anything about them, is it in Wales? Hawksby will say they are called Rochdale without the Rovers and it’s near Manchester. Hawksby will say “who cares”? They’ll get a big pay-off from the gate receipts and we move on to the next round, so both clubs will be happy.

Take a look a the result that Chelsea achieved at the Etihad, last season, in February this year.

Andy Jacobs is a sanctimonious prick and a football snob without portfolio - He's old enough to remember Chelsea as a car crash of a club with a decaying stadium and a bunch of hooly fans - until Abramovic took over.

I don’t think Messi and Ronaldo would have done much in the Blackburn game. Sharp was fighting a losing battle from the start with the shite service and McBurnie had 45 mins to get some fitness, he was holding back and probably under instructions from Wilder to do so. Mousset hasn’t had a chance so was eager to impress.

Not taking away from Mousset but McBurnie and Sharp weren’t to blame for the Blackburn performance. It was a a calculated management decision to change personnel and the forwards were never going to prosper as a result.
