Makes it almost look like a good game...

We really should've been punished on that break second half. Was amazed they didn't score, was desperate defending in the end.

Baxter & Sharp are extremely unlucky on both efforts that hit the post.

Defending dire on all 4 goals.

Keeper's clanger for Baxter's goal is a proper clanger. Long for their first isn't anything remotely as bad.

Looking at that long punch, if he hadn't got anything on it, the Southend player was in a good position to get on it. It doesn't seem as bad as some posters would like us to believe.

But I wasn't there, so...... Meh

That's exactly the point. We got pressure on the ball - despite being hugely outnumbered at one point. Credit to Adams even he was there.

If they score despite all that, then good luck to them. Glenda made the same point during the Spain England game last night.

Not a Long fan. Suppose I'm not a Howard fan either. However, if Howard were stood in Longs position, having looked at that, I firmly believe he would have caught the cross. One thing he's not bad at is catching crosses. Still it's after the event and all hyperthetical

Still maintain that it wasn't a punch but a parry that most keepers would have attempted to catch. Saying that we just didn't close the scorer down at all. Jose and Billy were desperately unlucky though. Ours hit the post and fly out, there's does the opposite

Got to be a short video, was basically two mediocre teams passing it around for 90, expecting our defence let them score twice, Baxter somehow scoring (from my angle in the Kop I assumed it was a free kick to Southend) then it dropping to Collins from a set piece. Immediately forgettable match. What was I doing from 3-5pm today again?

I was sat between G and H block in the South Stand and was cursing at the weak corner routine thinking that the keeper had the ball in his hands. I was confused with the cheering behind the goal making me think that the ref had awarded a penalty or something like that. I looked at the ref but he was running away from the goal, looked around the box again to see what the cheering was about until one or two near me were cheering. Took me a long time to realise that we had scored!

To my eyes this season at least, there's not much to choose between their performance under crosses.

Don't claim to know anything about goalkeeping but surely the punch/parry should have gone away towards the left back area ie away from goal, which looks empty and not straight to the middle of the penalty area where the danger is oncoming. No excuse for the oncoming player not being tracked or challenged.

Similar to Carl Tiler's headed clearance which fell nicely for David Hopkin to score that goal in the final minute of the 1997 play off final. If Tiler had headed towards either wing then the game would have gone into extra time

Yes too true silent don't know why keepers punch today when the cross is catchable seems to be a trait that English keepers have picked up from foreign keepers. If your going to kinda flap at it as long did sure it's better to deflect it to the wing rather than centrally.

I remember when I was a young kid we'dnesday had a centre half called Don Mcevoy he was very good at flicking it on from defensive corner kicks it would clear everyone and drift away to the far wing as players were drawn into the penalty area that's surely a safer area to deposit the ball from corner kicks it might seem a bit nieve but was effective. In those days I occasionally watched the pigs with some mates we were a mixed bunch of blades and owls.
Goalkeepers get well protected today and when they lose it under pressure 9 times out of 10 the ref will blow for a foul.
I was disappointed with Adkins use of subs today as Adams was having a poor game and maybe should have been subbed surely it was worth giving sammon a chance as his experience would probably been more effective. We had some bad luck but didn't take full advantage from the. bench

Long should have caught that. He's another who will guarantee third division football for us for some time to come.

UTB

If Howard had done that he would be getting slaughtered ,he was more worried about getting a clunk from a Southend player and it was a girly flap. He will never be a good enough keeper for us.

As a former keeper, that punch was pathetic. You punch to the sides, and if it's wet and dodgy, punch it out of play. Not straight to an opponent (great finish in all fairness)

From the Kop, I thought "This is the keeper's - it's straight down his throat". What a proper howler - it gave us an unexpected lifeline.

If Howard had done that he would be getting slaughtered.

Unfortunately, Howard also has his own set of worrying limitations on clear display this season – to the extent that playing his limited understudy has become a viable option. The claim at the striker's feet that Long did Howard failed to do in similar circumstances at Bradford for example. Long might improve from the player that he is now, but I personally doubt he will. I'm more certain that Howard, at his age, is about as good as he's going to get though. We need a new first choice keeper.

and we would have won that one in extra time, we were really starting to dominate the game. Oh god I'm getting depressed now!

Baxters goal was so spozzy.

Long should have caught it but his punch/push cleared the area, then its over to the lads to stop any shot coming in.

Collins goal was on the + side to the same degree that he was on the - side defending the run past him for their second.

Adkins praises the great blocking for their counter attack, which is fair and they did well to get back, but there are two players who dived in and missed it. Freeman is at fault for their second. Misjudges a header and then loses his man.

Freeman missed the header due to their #7 barging into his back which was missed by the ref
