What all those highlights show is what happened in the game - skill wise and most from us.

It doesn't show the huff and puff (and that's all it was) from Bolton in the 2nd half.

They did to be fair push us back and we defended resolutely at times, but there was a complete lack of skill or craft by Bolton - they must surely finish bottom.

Rubbish night with the weather and playing conditions, but we still tried to play football, yet when we needed to - we grafted.

I'd give the management 10 out of 10 for how they changed the team and how they set us up. It seemed nothing was a surprise and the players just got on with it. We'ed have lost that game 2 years ago.

Phil Parkinson must be a disciple of the "Howard Wilkinson school of Hoof" tactics.

He asks his players to lump it in to opposition box as much as possible because HW said that statistically the more the ball goes into the opposition penalty area then you have more chance to score.

These are the old 80's Wimbledon style tactics but now only tend to be used by some clubs in league 1 and 2.
The Championship is more like the PL where "possession" is cherished. So many teams are more patient and probe defences looking for weaknesses.

Wilder was humble enough to respect Bolton, he knew it would be tough with our defence having a busy night BUT he also knew there would be little precision or quality from Boltons attacks, so as long as our defence kept concentration then we should be fine.

Bolton basically rely on the percentages game.
Lump it into the box as much as possible, regardless of whether Madine is marked up or not
And eventually there might be a defensive error, a goalie error or they have a stroke of luck.

Those tactics will gain success in league 1 because defences will crack and make mistakes at some point but in the Championship you need more quality and be able to keep possession.

However if a team relies on playing percentage football then eventually they'll have a lucky day and they'll beat a decent team, so it was a good result for us.

Those highlights don't show the second half move down the left with some Brooks trickery involved and the cross that Leon completely missed, nor does it show the move down the right which fell to John Fleck on the edge of the area, unfortunately on his right foot, which is, shall we say, the weaker of his two and he couldn't get a shot away.

In Roy's View From before the game, one comment was that he was expecting Bolton to concede from a free header in their onw box. I thought that sounded odd, given they have Beevers and Wheater, but actually, that's exactly what it was, a free header knocked down for CCV who had two goes at it, very gratifying.
