There are many threads like this and I apologise in advance. However, I want us to sign Maupay and McBurnie. I don’t want us to take on the CB from QPR. But I live in the US, I am fortunate to watch every game through various means and I spend far too long telling everyone that Wilder is one of the best managers in the world. Nobody believes me. They write him off as a nobody. I can only think of one game, when Fulham beat us 4-5 at the lane, that I didn’t feel Chris had the upper hand with the squad of his choice. We’ve been lacking in depth and come up against high quality opposition that we’ve struggled to match. We have pulled through every time. This will continue.

If we line up on the first day of the Premier League season with the same 11 that we’re familiar with, and lose, then we hold our heads up high and march on to the next game. Every member of the squad deserves their chance. We might sign some of the best players from the Championship but that doesn’t define us as a club. We’re the underdogs in a city of underdogs. We have categorically sold our best assets year after year. It matters to me that we are a sustainable and community based club.

This isn’t an attempt at a backing call. It’s an honest sentiment. I want us to sign potential stars but all I really care about is Chris Wilder stays with us and shows that a humble guy from where we live can mix it amongst the biggest names in world football. I don’t fear relegation, I fear the Premier League turns us into the type of Billy Big Bollocks fans that expect everything. Wilder and Knill have brought this club back to us. Trust in them and be proud that the Steel City is represented by a bunch of captains and role models that are all striving for glory over fame and money. UTB.

Oftentimes, our colonial friends across the pond are out of the loop regarding soccerball. Wilder is nothing special and the really good managers are of the 'Golden Generation'.
In this article, the guys to watch are Frankie Lampard (one average season as manager in the lower leagues), Steve Gerrard (second in a league of two Minor League teams), John Terry (second-in-command at Villa) and Phil Neville (fourth-placed Soccermoms manager - think netball and rounders) but 'learning his trade' (i.e. how to wear a waistcoat).

Those are really well written thoughts and I agree. Recently I was at the pub with a good Stoke friend of mine. A similar club in many ways. He said exactly that. “ Don’t sell your soul to the premier league demons like us...and now relegated after 9 seasons we are struggling with our identity...especially the young fan base “. Not sure how you get round this though. 9 seasons was impressive. I remember when it was Stokalona now it’s more Stoke Vale.

From my perspective I saw the PL very similar to waiting for Christmas.

The 'journey' and build up is where the bulk of the excitement lies.

The actual reality is that the whole charade was invented out of a myth which has now grown out of control, we already know what we're going to get, it's going to come at a massive cost, we'll be forced to visit souless places and meet souless people, we'll look back and think this isn't what we expected during the build up - and ultimately we're going to be dragged down as we'll be surrounded by unhappy people.

However, without it, what's the point in existing!!
