I love Bramall Lane and I can't wait to see it full again regularly.

But what happens when we are established in the Premier League? we extend the kop, take the stantions out, extend the south stand.... Then what? To get the tourists in as well as the regulars we'd need a bigger ground.

I know, I know, it's a long way off (and may never happen in my lifetime) but short of knocking it all down and shifting it all south and east a little on the current site, we'd have to move.

Yeh, ok, I'll shut up
@stringjuniorchief
An extension to the Kop would do the job.
Plenty of room there for a start.

John street was built with very little forethought for me. We could have been looking for a stand similar to the size of the south stand.
Either way, I don't see us ever needing anything more than 45,000. Doing the Kop and filling the final corners in would be more than enough for quite some time.

Could be mistaken gang. / stringjunior, but I thought John Street was designed in a slightly more modest (low slung) kinda way because it has the structure already in place to accommodate another tier? In other words the exec boxes could sit under that tier as it rakes down slightly. That plus Kop extended, plus South Stand plus Kop / South stand corner must be pushing 48000 (?) which for me has a nice familiar ring about it. I will confer with String Senior on the structural subject for intel...

Because, do you think a church on the scale of that monstrosity would be allowed to be built on a street of terrace houses in almost, a town centre??

What's the point of building a church when nobody would go there ?

My church is on Bramall Lane

Why not, if they have given permission for a mosque to be built in the same location ?

We should have no problems regarding height of stands either. Not after they allowed that monstrosity Chinese building on the corner of St Mary's gate and the equally monsterous giant mosque not so far away.
You do realise that's a lift core and not the final building?

We don't need a bigger stadium, just better one. The kop stand was out of date the day it was built. The rake is too shallow, the facilities are shite and the kop corner is the worst piece of modern day football architecture I've ever seen. How can we extend a stand which is built essentially on a spoil heap and incorporate it into a 21st century football stadium?
Knock down and start again.

I've always thought the John Street lets the Lane down in terms of its size, but saying that, the income received from the corporate side of it relies on the John Street income. To have a bigger stand than what is currently ther might be hard due to planning permission from the houses that are on John Street.

We've currently got planning permission to extend the Kop, so that might happen if we get promoted back to the Championship, who knows.

When we finally get around to expanding the kop the extra 3,000 seats at the rear will be of a steeper rake and the supporting pillars removed with a new roof and indoor facilities coming into play. I think there was talk of retail space at the back of the stand as well. Maybe a mini supermarket.

That crappy poll only had 1500 people take part and they only have 2500 followers on twitter so its a load of old rubbish anyway.

I cannot, for the life of me, see Bramall Lane being expanded.

We would need to be in the Premier League for a consistent time period for it to even be considered. Failing that, England would need to win a World Cup bidding process and we would need to have a winning pitch ourselves - which is unlikely given that Hillsborough was chosen for the last bid.

The biggest mistake United made ground-wise was when they built the Laver stand. If someone with the slightest foresight had just decided to turn the pitch round 90 degrees and redevelop from there we could have ended up with a ground to rival anything in the country.

The main problem with the ground is the Kop. Any development should focus around rebuilding it. The stanchions need taking out and it could do with being steeper - it would improve the view and the noise, and the capacity could be extended without building much further backwards. The new roof should also cover the corner to the South Stand which could be filled in.

John Street could do with being built again too. It could be made much bigger without having to extend backwards and encroach on the houses behind. There's a big gap between the front row and the pitch for a start. But it isn't a priority. Not having perfect symmetry in terms of stand size isn't too big a problem.

Then I'd like certain parts of the ground prepared to be transformed into standing areas - certain parts of the Kop and the BL end of the South Stand. Because safe standing will come in soon, it's inevitable. They can't turn a blind eye to the fact there's no argument against it for much longer.

Obviously this would have to wait until the right time, which might be a very long way away.

The main priority in the ground is the Kop.
It's not just about an extra 4,000 seats, taking capacity to 36,700.
It's about improving the facilities that are desperate for an upgrade.
Removing the pillars to finally end the 100's of annoying partially restricted view seats.
And finally a Kop with a 15K+ capacity would be just about the biggest Kop in Britain and make it a landmark
And a iconic part of our ground.

Although official capacity would increase to 36,700 we would still have segregation issues.
We would give away fans the whole of the bottom tier 2,990 and a small part of the upper tier
Meaning 1,000 seats would need netting off.

So the operating capacity would be more like 35,700 which is more realistic for us.

Doubt the south stand would ever get done as we'd need to be established getting sell outs year in year out on the PL. However I still think the Kop should be expanded ASAP, even before we get in the PL.

[OLDIE]...Eee, I remember when REMPLOY ENGINEERING building were thee-uh, back in't day.[\OLDIE]
Looking at that CGI I had no idea where it was supposed to be. Now you've said Remploy I know exactly where it is.
