"Sheffield United is to donate 6,000 match-day tickets to The Children's Hospital Charity as part of a pledge to raise £25,000 for the charity's Make It Better campaign.

The League One club will donate 2,000 tickets for each of their home fixtures against Colchester United on February 10, Peterborough United on March 3 and Crewe Alexandra on March 28.

The tickets will be sold by the charity to clubs in the Sheffield and District Junior Sunday League at a price of £6, with £2.50 from each sale going towards the Make It Better campaign, which aims to raise £10 million by 2016 to help fund a new hospital wing with private rooms and parent beds.

A total of £2.50 from each sale will also go to any junior club which sells a ticket and the remaining £1 will go towards the league's development fund."

Fair play! Well done again United for supporting local charities!

When I saw the headlines on the website 'Blades pledge to make it better' I honestly thought they were apologising to the fans for decades of under achievement and were going to push the boat out in the transfer window.... as if!!

As for the real story, well done United, hope it is a success.

Great stuff Blades. My son plays for a local side in the junior sheffield league and we did this same thing last year. What happened was,the club sold the tickets, then a percentage of the price went to the club and the other percentage went to the Blades,no charity was involved but i remember saying at the time that after the success we had,a charity could make some great cash for the cause here, someone must have listened.

Our junior side raised about £800,just one age group 'btw' and we were ecstatic as a club, and it's not as though the people who bought the tickets went to a blades game normally as they didn't,so it was good for both causes really, getting old faces back interested etc,etc and the blades getting a bit of extra revenue.Unfortunately, the game was dire as i remember and they'll propably never come back and watch us again, but more fool them:)

It's good to see a charity getting some of the money instead of a junior football club with the outcome of one of these offers,as the way i see it is that funds should be made from other things regarding junior football clubs i.e. the professional football clubs themselves, plus parental subsidies.
