Blades begin Arbitration proceedings against the Premier League......

A full statement will be released this afternoon.

who would the arbitrators be tho? Trevor Brooking?

Could anyone shed any light on what this involves? I'm a bit of a thicko ;)

not totally sure of the league's governance terms but it could well be part of a stepped escalation towards litigation - a stage we have to at least appear to approach in good faith. probably designed to not get a result but to move it on. just speculating wildly here of course

It forces the league to sit down and discuss all the issues with United and with a panel of independent people as referees really.

Not sure what powers this panel will have though.

usually a mutually agreed independent forum/ panel convene along pre-agreed rules, to make a decision which in turn the parties can agree in advance to be bound by or not.
It can be a bit fuzzy to be honest. It normally only works if both concerned agree that a court case wouldn't be in anyone's interests and there's consenus on what the issues clearly are and what they way out of it broadly looks like. A points "correction" would only be an option if the PL agree to the arbitration and agree to points adjustment being a possible outcome. can't see it if WHU not involved also, and even then can't see it. Could be a throw of the dice from us though for enough financial compo to make the points question go away imho.
... or thinking about it governance wise it might be a hoop we have to jump through before league rules allow us the step up to litigation. we might be obliged to explore the possibility (even if it is then discounted out of hand straight away)

interesting - looking at the reports the suggestion is the PL expands to 21 for next season with 4 relegations to rebalance it at the end. That is something the league constitution would probably allow for, although I'd guess subject to members approval (as essentially its a trade association the flexibility exists to tweak membership). Whether the big boys who've all been so very very tired in the last few weeks would agree to an extra 2 games each is another matter.

If the league members get to vote, it depends really on how much they hate West Ham. Hopefully, plenty, but I'm not holding my breath.

I dont hold much hope for this still but i am actually glad we continue to pursue it,

Reading the star its so funny looking at the comments by Hammers fans saying everything was legal and above board.

So what did they admit guilty to then ? lol

Really think we should just drop it and move on.

We will be playing championship football next season, no legal battle will change that.

That's not the point Sharpy.
If you let someone who has been found guilty of something get off lightly then others will follow and it'll set a pesident that cannot be gone back on.
Every underhanded chairman would sign players to keep them up and think that the staying up money will pay for the fine and it doesn't matter.

I agree if we let it go now then it would just be letting teams get away with it. Also what happens if this happends again to another club ? Will they get just a fine next tme for it aswell. Im sure McCabe, Whelan and co wouldnt be disputing it if we didnt have a case.

I mean i cant see anything coming from it really and maybe we should just crack on with next season. Although having said that maybe we would be stupid to give up now as then it would really just look like "sour grapes" on our part.

If there is any justice in left in football then im sure FIFA will do what the premier league should of done.

Maybe the best outcome; Dave Whelan's calling for the 2 wankers' resignations. That'd be a start.

But... some money might come our way regardless.

The West Ham fans are really the only ones complaining about this legal action but the only reason the protest seems so vocal is because they're cockney southern loud mouths :D

We seem to be be getting sympathetic support from a number of other fans, even if their teams aren't officially supporting us.

I'm in full support for the campaign but I'm a little embarrassed at the call for a "21 team Premiership".

That made me do a little wee

What a stupid thing to say :D

Tbh, i think your wasting your time with all this. You might as well face up to it that your playing champiuonship football and start getting ready for this

Apologies if this has been covered already, but I understand that there'll be a 3-man committee set up featuring someone of our choice, someone of the PL's choice, and a solicitor we both agree on. Both sides will be looked at and then the committee will make a decision. That decision will be final - there'll be no court cases or trips to Europe.

The 21-team Premiership cropped up the other day when a sports solicitor was interviewed on some programme or other. He said there's no way they'll relegate West Ham (imagine the ensuing court cases and further delays) so the only option for SUFC to be back in the Prem was to increase the number of teams.

I agree that I'd rather the team focussed on next season rather than dragging this on, but the PL need to realise the injustice and the mistake they've made (being polite!). Also, this will probably all be sorted in the next 10 days so all the players will still be on their hols anyway.
I think a small compensation payment is the best we can hope for.

McCabe calling for a 21 team league Is embarrasing I agree.

I just dont think we will get anything out of the legal action. Not even any compensation let alone prem status.

no harm in giving it a go though is there man. If nothing comes of it then so be it. But if something does then its allllllll good.

how much would we loose paying laywers legal fees etc if we dont get anything out of it?

That was embarrasing having McCabe say that about 21 teams.
