Found extended highlights of the match that hasnt been seen for over 50 years

THE team of the 70s there. Was on the BLLT for that.

That attack near the end where Woodward moves into their half with the ball at his feet toward their penalty area, found myself saying "Goo-on, Woody ... " under my breath.

Interesting to see Scullion popping up to grab a Keiron Freemanesque goal an all.

Was there on the bllt as well Pommpey, remember this enormous Spurs fan standing just behind me, that was the time when fan's mixed on the terraces, didn't stop me celebrating when we scored, peach of a Cross from Geoff Salmons for the first goal, one of my favorite players of that time, that was some team. Thanks for posting it Silent Blade👍

Thanks Silent was there on the Kop. Spurs resorting the the long throw! they were in a downward trajectory from the great team of the 60's. They robbed us in the last minute, familiar ring to it! That was the only comparison with football of to-day.

What a pleasure to see front foot football, players driving towards the opposition goal. None of this tippy tappy sideways football. Sheffield United players of to-day please note when a quality cross comes in from the left, as was always the case with Geoff Salmons, make a run to the far post as Scullion did. None of you bothered yesterday when Stevens put 2 crosses of equal quality across the box. Mind you in those days football teams played with 3 if not 5 forwards at times. To-days penchant for 1 up top would have caused outrage back then.

I was on the John Street Terrace, just behind the dug outs. What a terrific team we had in those days!

It was, wasn't it?

Two robust full backs, a wiry, hard-as-nails centreback, a flying playmaker of a right half, a tank of a left half, two fast, attacking wingers, two playmaking inside forwards and a centre forward of pedigree. All bought for a sixpence and skilled in red and white.

Fucking loved those brief seasons

I was at this one too. A skinny, bonkers 15 year old kid from Donny. We would normally have been in the melee behind the goal on the Kop, but we got in late and had to make do with a spot round towards the cricket pitch. I remember this game quite well. The sense of disappointment and injustice at the result came flooding back…thanks Silent Blade

What a fantastic reaction by a packed Shoreham to the first goal. In my opinion, the match day enthusiasm was far superior in that era than the present. Summed up yesterday when hundreds were leaving before the final whistle, when the most important match of the season was on a knife edge.
Thanks for posting Silent.

What’s interesting is the space behind the goal & the stand at the BL end?

Acres.

Pitch in comparison to present must have been 20 yards shorter in length.

I was in the centre stand on John Street, living on Shoreham Street at the time, great to see shirts that look like football kits, not advertising posters. Players wearing 1 to 11. The crowd with not a space between them. Some great names on both sides. Tackles and aerial challenges that were allowed to happen. Len Badger taking a bad one, getting up, rubbing his head and carrying on with the game. The ball going forward instead of across and back for 30 passes. Woody running with the ball and Trevor Hockey, one of my heroes of the time. And to finish Brian Moore.
I look at the crowd and I see lots of 'old' blokes, no longer with us, I would have been 15, I'm now one of those old blokes, still in love with the blades, still waiting for the real glory years, still waiting for a league cup or an fa cup trophy that I know will never come, still hating Wednesday, love the blades but if I'm truthful don't like the way football has gone over the years. That said, I sat next to a 6 year old kid last Saturday, he watched the Billy Sharp montage on the screen before the game and he had that young lad had the glint in his eye, I asked him and he said he wanted to be like Billy when he grows up, I hope he gets to see us win a trophy or two

I was 14, and had worked Saturday morning as a 'bread lad' on the early morning Sunblest wagon off to Scunthorpe and back. Got in about ten past three, and stood on my rolled up Sunblest smock at the back of the Kop to the right, on the mezannine behind where that fuckin Army Recruitment poster was for years. I've always been a lanky twat, so managed to get a view.....

Amazing too see hardly any Spurs fans attended and the away end packed out with United fans

Cheers SB.. Gilzean in the last minute was a sickener. I was on the Kop, great days, and love the old Lane with the terracing, curved corners and the white rail fence we all used to climb on as kids.

We started out as 14 year olds at the bottom of the Kop. If we could squeeze in we stood to the right of goal as you were looking at it from the Kop. We gradually plucked up the courage to stand further back.
We loved being about halfway up the Kop, close enough to be right in the middle of the action, far enough away if fighting started or stuff got thrown.
The atmosphere was almost always electric. It was magnificent being part of it.
And I loved it when we scored a goal; the mad moment of elation, leaping up in the air with delight, the surge down the steps, almost taking you to the bottom of the kop, almost being lifted off your feet, riding the wave with hundreds of others. What a rush that was…
Eeee lad, them were t’days 🥳😂

Couldn’t you literally walk round from the Kop to the BLLT? iirc Quite a few people did it, so they could be behind whichever goal we were attacking.
I believe this was stopped in the 1960s for league and cup games. I remember doing this when watching a County Cup match against Donny in 1973, as County Cup were low key games so I suppose you could walk round from Kop to BLLT or vice versa in County Cup matches in the 1970s?

Peters' equaliser was in the last minute of the 1st half too. The ref blew for half time before we were able to re-start the match
There is no better emotion than a last-minute winner or equaliser for us, and no worse emotion than when the opposition do it to us. Logically, time should teach us that last-minute goals are one of the things that make football what it is, but football is not about logic. And when have calmed down after a last-minute set-back, we shouldn’t be too hard on the players- the team for that Spurs match is one of many fans’ favourites, but even they could let in 2 last-minute goals in a single match. It happens! And it is what makes football a great sport.

Yeah…I went to Fulham one season in the 80s with my flat mate who was a Fulham fan. My recollection is that Fulham scored in the first minute of each half and absolutely battered us…but we equalised through Tony Agana in the last minute of each half. A 2-2 draw felt like a defeat for my flat mate and like a victory for me.

Bryson got 2nd equaliser

Bryson got 2nd equaliser
Thanks Silent…my memory playing tricks on me (again) 😂
It was a weird one because we were behind for most of the match but somehow hung in there for an undeserved draw. I’ll take that … but it’s galling when it happens the other way round…

Think we got a 3-3 draw (or maybe 2-2) at Barnsley about12-15 years ago. We got absolutely hammered through the game but somehow came away with a draw. We had a centre forward whose name I can't remember, but he was a long haired gyppo who used to play for Barnsley. Think he scored a penalty?

Looking at the archives, it seems I was wrong. Bogdanovic actually played and scored for Barnsley, and Henderson scored 2 penalties for us. Fuckin beer.....
