Saturday will be our 70th meeting in all competitions with Blackpool. The Blades lead 31-23 with 15 draws.
Our first ever meeting was 16th January 1892 away in the FA Cup, SUFC won 3-0. The next FOUR meetings were also all in the FA Cup in Jan 1893, Feb 1906 and Jan's of 1915 (eventual winners) and 1924 (season before our last ever FA Cup win).
Our first ever league meeting was in Division 1 on Xmas day 1930, Blackpool won 2-1.
The second league meeting was the following day at BDTBL with the Blades winning 5-1... you could be forgiven for predicting a similar scoreline tomorrow.
SUFC have lost 2 out of the last 12 meetings dating back to Oct 1981 (3-1 Blades in Division 4).
The last time Blackpool beat SUFC at Bramall Lane was Apr 1977. We lost 5-1.
The bulk of the games between the two clubs have been in the top flight (30), this will be our 7th meeting in the 3rd tier. At this level SUFC lead 5-1.
The last meeting between the two clubs was at Bramall Lane in March 2010, the season before it all went belly up. We won 3-0 with Nick Montgomery (43) scoring the pick of the goals. Richard Cresswell grabbed a brace (1 & 66).
Blackpool fielded Charlie Adam, David Vaughan, Jason Euell, Brett Ormerod and DJ Campbell that night. Andy Butler came off the bench whilst on loan from Huddersfield. Blackpool got promoted to the premier league via the play offs and joined Newcastle and WBA back in the top flight. Sheffield Wednesday finished 22nd and were relegated to League 1.
