billy whitehurst is better than the strikers we have now

Is Billy Sharp better than the strikers we have at the moment?!! Err, yes! It's a no brainer for me. On the other hand, could Billy Sharp score goals for us?? His record to date would suggest otherwise.
I've always been gutted that it just didn't happen for Billy with us. Maybe when he's in his early 30's he could come back and help us push for promotion back into The Football League!!!;)

We never should have sold him, I'll always stand by that, better than anything we have now by some distance

One of the worst decisions in the last ten years (and did it twice for good measure.)

His record elsewhere can not be argued with. However, he always looked poor for us. Lots of effort but no result. He was slow, constantly offside and did not score nearly enough.
I am not sure I buy this Blackwell tactics malarky. I think as a striker you will get chances under virtually any side.

Whichever way you hack it, the club has dropped a major bollock with this player.

And to add insult to injury, is likely to go in January for up to £4m.

Great eye for a player that Blackwell !!

Cheds just scored again- Now 2:0.

What a great partnership, in different circumstances, that could and should have been for us.

We signed a goalscorer and had him working the channels. Everywhere else his team has been built around him being the focal point for chances and he's scored a lot as a result. Under Robbo we just looked like we had no focal point so I spare that period as no-one really played well. I'd like to know if his contract was comparable to Cresswell's, who I see as the effective replacement.

I think he was a bit unlucky with us. I remember a couple of goals being wrongly disallowed. He was offside a hell of a lot though to be fair to the previous comment.

I'd much rather have Chedwyn than billy Offside Sharpe. Might of just been the pressure on him but at the end of the day he pretty much failed twice with us so we did well to get rid

we only played billy in his proper position once when beattie was injured.. against qpr.. he scored four goals.. next match beattie invoked his play every match clause and billy was back on the wing

We never played Billy in the right position, we never played to his strengths

At the same time, Billy couldn’t adapt to the way that we played.

We never saw the best of him at the lane.

Personally I never thought we stuck with him, we’d give him 60-80 mins, then sub him. What we should’ve done was persist with him for 10 games etc but we didn’t.

I saw similarities with Ched as well, but thankfully we seem to have finally started to see the best of him this year.

I don’t believe we were wrong to sell him, sometimes it just doesn’t work out for certain players

Billy in a Blades shirt was never as good as a couple of the forwards we have now.

You can pull the bones of out of why that was the case.

Which forwards we now have? I'll give you Evans (:)), then I'm struggling.

Oh hang on, thought you've been saying he was shite for the last 2 years ;)

I have, because he has been. And now he's playing well. It's really that simple. Recognising those facts seems much more sensible that trying to apologise for his abject performances since we bought him. Where I was wrong was that I didn't think that our £6million investment could even show any quality in the third division. Hands up, I was wrong (and pleased) about that bit. I wont ask for a return admission, which would be tantamount to a broken clock restarting in its' moment of glory.

:)

i've never apologised for him, thats his job. I've just pointed out (like I have with many players) where I see potential and where I have seen decent flashes. I'm pleased to say that those flashes are turning into something more.

The price the club pay means nothing to me as I didn't pay it. I saw a striker that didn't deserve such heavy criticism, but was criticised based on his price tag. The same rules didn't apply to Jamie Ward because he only cost us 200k or whatever.

Though it's not the players fault, my sympathy slides away as you add zero's to the amount they bleed from the club in contrast to what little they return. It's human nature, surely.

"The price the club pay means nothing to me as I didn't pay it.".....is where we differ. We paid the price of it, in terms of relegation, and subsequent lack of resource to fill the holes. As a season ticket holder, I consider I paid in several ways.

Yep we differ on that one.
