1980 because that's when I started going regularly and you've got to draw the line somewhere.
I've not included loan players or those that only played a handful of games...
Who do you reckon?

Reg Holdsworth, if only for that goal in the Cup against Coventry.

Sweeper Type?

Has to be McGrath, by virtue he about the only player we have to have played in the position in the last 30 years.

And he was immense anyway.

McGrath for me albeit based on a handful of games. His positioning was supernatural, he seemed to be everywhere without actually moving. Dellas was a close shout, Jags would't be a 'sweeper' for me.

I wouldn't say jags was sweeper type.

I wasn’t sure how else to describe it but I’m talking about the traditional pairing of two centre-backs where one is better in the air and attacks the ball, while the other is usually quicker and covers behind.

I realise not all centre-backs fit neatly into one category or the other but I don’t mean a “sweeper” in the sense of Beckenbauer’s role in a 5-3-2 formation.

You'd have been better labelling this one and 'Centre Backs' and the other one as 'Centre Back (Clogger Type)' ;).

I voted for Jags here. Would have loved to have voted for Reg, who was fantastic for us, and I also thought Tuttle was an underrated player.

But Jags was at a different level in my opinion, developed from a not-very-good defensive midfielder, to full back, to eventually an excellent centre half with pace and skill. Deserved his call ups and has continued to an excellent premiership career.

McGrath was good, but such a short stint that I don't really count him.

Don't quite know how Beesley gets on this list, he'd be better off on the cloggers one :D
