Matt Lowton had a fairly comfortable victory on the no.2 shirt and poor old Daryl Westlake was the only player to get no votes at all (due to a couple of comedians deciding Jordan and France were worth a vote). So our squads our now as follows

Dream

1. Paddy Kenny
2. Matt Lowton

Nightmare

1. Steve Simonsen
2. Daryl Westlake

Today it's the turn of the no.3's. There should be some real competition on this one. Remember it's on their perforamce in that particular shirt, so those thinking of voting for Harley should note his spell in the no.3 shirt was only the first 4 games of the 05-06 season.

It will only let me post 10 poll responses (Foxy sort it :-), by the way, so the last 2 holders of the no.3 shirt are not listed. They are Lescinel Jean-Francois (2011-13) ad Marcus Williams (2013- ). If anyone wants to vote for them please do so in the body of the thread...

Vote away....

Unsworth for me.

Quinn could have got the nod, but his best days were pre-99...

I could point out that Unsworth's no.3 days were the handful of games he played in the PL in 06-07 before going off to Wigan in Jan 07 (not sure what happened to him after that...). His best days were as no. 24 in the promotion season...

Oh, bollocks...

Not an awfully easy choice then. I'd like to change my vote to Naysmith then...

Sorted and added to poll ;)

Not exactly a glittering selection really is it?

Probably naysmith, even though I didn't really rate him

Interesting list. Armstrong was decent, as was Wright and Naismith. Harley was very good then very average. Went for Quinn in the end because during that spell (best probably pre-99 but still decent in 99-00) he was fantastic as a wing-back and looked as if he would go far, in the end he just went up a Geordie cul-de-sac!

Darren - perhaps you could add some details like Unsworth's shirt number change to the poll choices for the next one?

I feel a bit sorry for Westlake - he's not the best player we've ever had but he's better than France or Jordan. Maybe make it a public poll?

Armstrong gets my vote; I didn't realise how many no3s we've had in 14 years! Hope he's doing OK now.

This is really tough. Unsworth had one good spell in the promotion season. Naysmith one good season in 2009. Harley and Quinn similarly but too early to be considered. Chris Armstrong is in the mix too but I'm not sure which season he wore the 3.

So unless someone can make a good case, I'm abstaining. :)

Armstrong wore 3 in the 03-04 season, which was his first season. He was then given 20 for the 04-05 season , but was out the entire season through injury. He came back in 05-06 (promotion seasons) and continued with 20 until he left the club in Aug 08. All of which means that those who want to vote for Armstrong probably want to vote for him for his performance as no. 20.

Unsworth was 24 in the promotion season and played only a handful of games in the PL as 3.

Harley's best speall, in my view, was his first loan spell as 26 in 02-03. He then wore 20 in 03-04 in another loan spell and 14 in 04-05 after he signed permanently. He only played 4 games as no.3 at the start of 05-06 before he left.

The upshot is that most of the likely contenders - Unsworth, Armstrong and Harley - had their best spells with other numbered shirts. As such, I went for Quinn.

I see our joker is back with a vote for Nosworthy.... No doubt it's great fun, but it does rather skew the results for something which think a lot of people are interested in. This means that our Nyron now won't get in the nightmare XI where most people probably wanted him.

To avoid this problem, or at least identify the culprit (my money is on WalthamstowBlade ), make the Poll result public in the next poll.

Then you can see who voted for whom.

True. But i don't think someone like WB would care if we knew it was him and thus that would provide no deterrent.

I could arbitraily provisionally disallow what I think are joke votes and call on the voter to justify their vote. If they don't do that to my satisfaction, the vote would be disallowed.

I love being a dictator....

Except at one of your parties...

Shows how little you know....

On the point, I could identify certain players as definite nightmare players and say that anyone voting for them will have their vote disallowed unless they provide a cogent justification on the thread. For no. 3 my definite nightmares would be Flitcroft, Nosworthy and Williams.

Given that nobody else has your background knowledge of who played well in certain numbered shirts and not others, I think it would be a more meaningful poll if you just listed the 3 or 4 best candidates for each shirt.

Then the 3 or 4 worst candidates for the nightmare squad as a separate poll.

Therefore Harley, Unsworth and Armstrong wouldn't appear in either list as they hardly wore number 3.

What I will do from tomorrow is say when players wore other shirts so that that can be taken into account.

Looks like I've also ballsed up this vote, I voted for Unswoth on the basis of his goal against Hull and the promotion season, but apparently he didn't wear 3 at that point. So I'd change if I could to Stretch.

ive gone for Quinn, really class player in his day, I thought he would achieve more in the game. had a really cultured left peg

I went for Alan Wright because the winner seems obvious already and Wright deserves more than 1 vote, if only for that cup game against Villa.

I'll stand up as the other voter for him. I always thought for such a small chap he was great at getting his head on the ball. Useless fact of the day he is the shortest player ever to play in the Premiership. Apparently.

I remember away at Preston on Sky, we were winning 1-0 thanks to an early Gray goal when Jagielka got sent off conceding a penalty (I think it was his old nemesis Chris Foy who sent him off). They missed and we defended the lead for the entire match with little Wright having a stormer in the centre of defence.

I certainly wouldn't be surprised if that were true about him being the shortest player, I think I once heard he did his knee stretching for the pedals on his new car!

Yet you don't turn a hair at multiple votes for the dreadful Kozluk?

Armstrong, by the way, was a half-decent midfielder, nothing more. He was an appalling left-back. Still, he had a nick-name and has had some bad luck. Got to be worth a vote.

Please stop now. Number 4 is too grotesque to contemplate.
