Only 3 of this lot actually played and two of them only played once as sub in the number.

Notes on the players:

Anderson: reserve defender who never played a first team game

Seck: the master signing from Senegal in the Jan 2007 transfer window. Never played a first team game

Robertson: played in the League Cup in 2009-10 as 39. Had been 29 in 2008-09.

Creighton: goalkeeping coach called on as an emergency sub in the League Cup game at Hartlepool in August 2010 when we were short of players. Never played a first team game.

Thomas: reserve goalie from Australia. Never played a first team game.

I have always wanted to know who authorised the Seck transfer and, more importantly, who got paid as a result of the deal going through.

I once asked Hao Haidong a question in putonghua. He seemed pleased, and answered enthusiastically. Unfortunately, I had exhausted my knowledge of putonghau in asking the question, so I do not know what he said.

What was the question? I hope it wasn't something about the fnaar fnarr connotations of the transliteration of his name :-)

It is to this day a crying shame that Dong and Bent never lined up together for united this denying us the opportunity of a Bent Dong partnership...

We did have a Tonge Brown Windass briefly are you never satisfied ? :)

Apart from the fact that Hao is his family name, so it would have been Hao Bent?

He was a free transfer, 27 years old, 6 foot 4. Capped six times by Senegal. Experience in France and Turkey.
Potentially not the worst signing we've ever made. He would probably be among our better players now.
I'm not sure why you think there was something "dodgy" about his signing.
Just another gamble that didn't pay off. We've wasted far more money on others before and since.

I seem to remember him having quite a good start with us but then getting a bad injury.

didn't he go off half way through the first game of the season away at Coventry?

(this was the famous 'Roast chicken and Jack Daniels' game btw)

Not sure - think it might have been Norwich. Might have been one of those "Radio Blade Mystery Tour" matches so not sure if you saw it ;)

He was subbed by Allison in that game as I recall, but he was injured in the home game v Rotherham on 14/9/02 and never played for us again.

I was at Old Trafford for an England Euro Qualifier the day of the Norwich game. Met another Blade who said we were 0-3 up after 30mins and was convinced they were taking the piss.

He got sent off at Norwich, but the sending off was later rescinded.

Who voted for Dong and WHY???????????!

Because he is not iffy! Onoura was woeful, from my memories that season might have been completely different if he had not got injured and forced NW to rethink.

The problem is when you get to number 39 in this kind of exercise, by it's very nature the choice is going to be akin to looking for a rare steak at a vegetarian conference (limited).

Our 202/2003 season was what it was because Iffy got injured so early on that year. He was abominal in the first few natches when he was fit. Definitely one for the nightmare squad IMHO.

Chief turned out to be a far better player than Iffy, and yes things changed that season soon after they swapped prominence. But I gather that Iffy is an absolute diamond of a chap in person, and the fact my mate cheered when his achilles went is eternally to to his shame….

Didn't he play against Shendu the Chinese team in friendly at the Lane??

No, but he did play against Chengdu at the Lane. ;)
My main memory of that match was being sat in the away end, with it's complete lack of legroom. No wonder most visiting fans stand, there's only enough legroom if you're ET.

Anyway, it's an abstention on the voting from me. Nobody worth it.
