Flint and Clarke are judged to officially be the best in L1 by the PFA, but apart from them, who do you think were the best CB's in league one last season who we could realistically look to purchase or get in on a free?

I would suggest Santos from Peterborough. 6' 5" strong, young and fast. Absolutely knocked our lot off the park when i saw him at the lane.

Seb Hines who was on loan at Coventry last year from Middlesbrough, he played on loan at an American club aswell. He's yorkshire born and bred, only 27, quite pacey, strong, reads the game well and would propably like the challenge of getting us to the Championship.

Wasn't Butler meant to be rated as one of the best in the league before we signed him?

I previously said we needed two but actually we have a potentially well balanced partnership in Collins and McGahey. I saw them play together a couple of times and they did well. With Kennedy also there I would say bring one more good CB in and we are well covered.

Sorry but i heavily disagree there. With all due respect to Collins, he wasn't the best before and he'll be even worse now with having a year out. McGahey when i've seen him which is every time he's played at the lane, he has been absolutely awful. Remember that horrific shielding back to the goalkeeper when he could have just cleared it. Not for me at all, Kennedy is decent and he's the only CB that is worth keeping for next season IMO.

Collins is slow, past it and has not got a clue how to find a team mate and mcgahey is slower, positionally clueless and never attacks the ball. He looks the part but unfortunately that is as far as it goes.

An example of how football supporters are very quick to judge and are very very harsh. We're talking about a player that has been at the club a long time and forged a very strong partnership with Maguire.....then another that is very young and has played a little over a dozen games in a side that was consistently being chopped and changed. I also heavily disagree.

Spot on. I watched McGahey all game earlier on in the season and he didn't man mark a player once from any set pieces.

Doesn't take away the fact that we had no better natural centre backs at the club after they were frozen out. Still don't.

Kennedy.....maybe and it's still a maybe as he hasn't stayed fit for long enough to be able to tell.

The fact that we have no one better other than the unfortunate Kennedy, does not make the two aforementioned any good!

There is a difference between being harsh and being truthful. If a professional player was capable at L1 level i doubt he'd be making those sorts of mistakes as often as i saw him making them. I hope he comes through and improves and is instrumental in our promotion campaign next season but i can't see it.

CB's have to have an understanding with each other, they can't get this understanding in one game here and one game there, they have to play consecutive games to get that partnership. Now i'm not saying McGahey is great or even going to be great but it is way too early to be writing him off, if he gets the chance under NA then lets give him a chance to prove himself, he's still only young and as i remember a certain Harry Maguire had a really dodgy start to his career before being the best defender in League one.

I like to be open minded about players, especially when they have shown signs of talent. There is no such thing as being truthful with regard to opinions on players because it is more often than not an entirely subjective matter. Hence I take other opinions with a pinch of salt and form my own.....particularly when those opinions come from football supporters, who are probably the most fickle people on earth.

I remember Clough being a held up as some sort of miracle saviour in his first season by almost all Blades. Ask that majority now and most of them will tell you he wasn't good enough. Like I said....taken with a pinch of salt.

I would be amazed if we start next season with 2 of the centre backs we have in the starting 11 ideally we need a new pairing. With Collins and McGahey/Kennedy as cover.

I wouldn't write McGahey off as he's only 19, but he's miles and miles away from being ready for first team football

Was he the one who was solid throughout the game then his error led to our goal?

McGahey needs a run of games simple as, whether that's with us or at a lower level. He came in last season at the same age Maguire did and it took him a while to settle in, helped by the fact we were an attacking team that season. The defence were under more pressure last season than we were in Maguire's 1st full season the way NC played.

His weaknesses were there to see last season but a few Blackpool lads I know really rated him and said he was as good as anyone they'd seen at that age for many years. Loads of players don't step up but it's far too early to write him off yet and we might still have a decent player on our hands. With the right partner alongside him, there's no reason why he can't have a good season with a run of games.

please let us sign him.

Santos!........Santos!........Santos!........Santos!........Santos!........

Yes that's him. Bullied our forwards all game. Him and Nathan Byrne of Swindon are possibly the best i've seen at the lane in recent years, quality players.

I think your right barny we are short at centre back collins is not the answer for me but mcgahey is still only 19
so he has time to iron out his weaknesses but not a starter as yet. Two new centre backs are a must and i hope
atkins realises this with the help of morgan .The spine of the team is where clough got it totally wrong and it cost
him his job.

Put McGahey alongside an experienced CB that commands the area and he will grow. Maguire owes a lot to Neill Collins for his career.
