Best and Worst of our League 1 Stay

I've found at least one occasion where this happened! Sheffield United 1-0 Portsmouth, 29 October 2012. It continued our unbeaten start to the league season...Jesus Christ. Our team that night:

Long (!)
McMahon(!) Maguire Collins (!) Hill (!)
Flynn McDonald Doyle Williams (!)
Porter (!) Blackman

On top of that, Wilson was the manager.

And that team would have got promoted that season if McCabe didn't decide selling Blackman in January was a good idea.

Shows how awful the league was.

God knows what would've happened to us the next season though.

We would have gone straight down.

Selling players at the wrong times has been a bit of a specialty of ours, just ask David Weir about McDonald.

i agree with much of the above.

That bloody Yeovil goal!!

But I would say Sharp is def better than Ched tho, loved our win away to Bournemouth when Murphy scored and think he should be in the best players category with Sharp and Maguire.
The Yeovil goal was awful and that was also the day I had my doubts about young George Long.

It's hard to choose between Evans and Sharp I reckon. Two different strikers. Sharp being more of a poacher whereas I thought Evans was more exciting at the time and he could score goals left right and centre with the 35 he got that season (baring in mind he missed around 4/5 games at the beginning). At 23 he was still a young talent and tbf Sharp's the closest striker to match him in this league but I can see Sharp struggles towards the end of games with his running. But that's not to say he's been a class act all season, because he's the main player I'll remember from this memorable season.

Adkins was a bit unlucky. His big mistakes were

He thought the team he inherited was better than it was (it finished high in the league the previous season).
He gave them all a chance in that first season and didn't act quickly enough.
His former players let him down badly.
He put his faith and most of the budget on Dean Hammond who was surprisingly poor.
Also Woolford was very average at best.

His players let him down and he came across as too supportive of them.
Wilder has taken the right approach and told them straight "shape up or clear out".
Immediately told Coutts and Freeman they weren't wanted, probably the best thing there could have happened to them because both realised it was last chance saloon and they could end up in the lower league at little clubs.

Luck , no he was wank ,all the lame excuses, all the unseen work what a load of bollocks.
Then he blames the fans what a tosser .
Good riddance.

Yeh youre right, Ched was much younger and mobile of course, but I just cant help but love Billy as a player and captain, he gives it everything. Gets a lot of goals, none spectacular, but always in the right place.

Best Goal

Before I answer these questions, I should caveat that many of games I've attended during League One have either been blanked out of my memory due to either (1) choice, or (2) too much alcohol.

Having said that, I vividly remember Murphy's goal away at Donny a couple of years ago, so that's my choice.

Best Game

Some of the games under Clough were good, particularly in the cup runs. However, the best game would of course have to be Northampton from a couple of weekends ago. It's the first time in my life I've actually been at the game we were promoted at and the scenes will live with me forever.

Best Player

We had a good set of players in our first season; Maguire, Lowton, Williamson, Quinn, McDonald and Ched. Most of those left after the first season, with the exception of Maguire. Since then Murphy, Blackman and Phillips were all key players, to varying degrees.

I'd have to probably go for Sharp or Fleck, however. The former for his consistent goalscoring and commitment, even last season when we were rubbish. Where would we be without him??? Fleck has been exceptionally gifted and he has been a pleasure to watch. I'm confident he'll adapt to life in the Championship with no problem.

Winner - Sharp, just edging it, based on his importance last season.

Best Win

There's obviously been a few this season. Southend and Peterborough away both seemed defining moments for me. Prior to Southend a lot of United fans were growing concerned about Southend's form and saying we would do well to get a point! We turned up at Roots Hall and battered them, with the scoreline flattering Southend.

The home win against Bolton would just edge this for me. The display was fantastic and we made Bolton look poor and we've not looked back since.

Best Kit

Easy - this season's. I said when it was released that it had the air of a promotion winning kit ;)

Best Manager

Wilder, of course.

Worst Goal Conceded.

Where do you start?

Worst Game

The Scunthorpe game at the end of last season was a low point for multiple reasons. There's been a few others that spring to mind, such as losing at home to Crewe, Fleetwood (not this season so much) and Burton.

Worst Player

I could probably pick 10 easy and my answer would change each time you ask me. For now I'm going for Marcus Williams. Can't recall him ever having a good game.

Worst Loss

The Huddersfield play-off defeat due to (1) the reason why we were there and (2) the manner of the defeat.

Worst Kit

Most of the away kits have been crap. In terms of home shirt, I'd go for the 2012-13 one. Too much white on there. Second would be the first adidas one we had as it looked cheap.

Worst Manager

Adkins

The worst has just been every minute of embarrassment for 6 years. Got close to breaking at times. Best is hanging on until now and feeling part of the success again. Wouldn't have felt same if I'd stopped going then joined in when things got better.

A couple more to throw into the mix Danny higginbotham and Portsmouth away when they were already relegated!

Best goal - Murphy at Doncaster.
Best game - Northampton 1 Blades 2 2016/17
Best player - Billy Sharp
Best win - Blades 2 Charlton 0 FA Cup quarter final 2014
Best kit - 2016/17 home kit
Best manager - Sir Chris Wilder
Worst goal conceded - 2nd goal vs pigs
Worst game - League 1 play off final
Worst player - Dean Hammond
Worst loss - Pigs 1 Blades 0 2011/12
Worst kit - 2011/12 away kit
Worst manager - Nigel Adkins

Best goal: Freeman away at Swindon this season.. Barca like build up

Best game: 3-3 at Bradford this season, terrific game.

Best player: Fleck

Best win: Bolton home this season

Best kit: 2012-13 Propper stripes

Best manager: Chris Wilder

Worst goal conceded: Fleetwoods second goal home fixture 2014-15

Worst game: Home to Burton 2015-16, awful football game

Worst player: Connor Sammon

Worst loss: Shrewsbury home 2015-16,, embarrassing

Worst kit: 2015-16. White flag raised from game one.

Worst manager: Clough. Horrible man.

Worst player: Higdon. All other contenders could run and left the deck when they jumped (exc. Sammon)
