I think he has come in for some unjust criticism recently but 1 goal & 1 assist from 3 games whilst being played out of position for two of the games is a good return. Yes, he isn't the quickest but in him we have someone who is a consistent threat from set pieces and a tidy enough player to warrant his place in the first team.

Ben Davies - The new David Unsworth.

Only scores winners as well, that lad.

Think I'm right in saying all his goals have resulted in points?

Most fans have seen that our balance hasn't been right the first couple of games and so they've suggested some changes. Moving Alcock to right back and one of the experienced centre halves back in the team were a couple of those. Although Davies did ok at right back, Nigel Clough has also concluded this was the right thing to do.

I think most of us agree that Davies is a solid and useful player, although not everybody will want him to be a first choice. There has been a lot of talk regarding our first eleven being weaker, but squad stronger than last season. Tonight we may have seen the benefit of having a stronger squad. When certain players are struggling for form we have others now who can come in and give us something a bit different.

I don't think anybody has criticised Davies. I think the criticism is that NC has been playing him at RB.

It's beggars belief why Clough decided to put the players in the wrong positions in the first place. Last night we had 3 leaders on the pitch in Collins, Doyle & Davies.

Three of his four league goals have been winners.

The other was in a 2-0 win over... Peterborough.

It was the first goal if I remember correctly (Porter got the second off the bench) so you could argue all four have been winners. The other three were the difference between wins and draws so were even more directly the winner.

Derby fans said to expect some odd decisions from Clough re players playing out of position but go with it as he knows what he's doing.

I'm glad we've got Ben Davies, I thought he was one of our best performers last night. He is always moving, looking around to make sure he and others are in position and his deliveries are fantastic. How many seasons did we all spend complaining our corners never beat the first man?

Glad he got a goal last night, he's deserved it and you could see from his reaction the passion he has for playing.

Benjamin Davies is a fantastic pro, a fine player with a great attitude

I've been banging on about him being played in CM to 'fit him in' & replace Basham.

I've also given Basham abit of a 'bashing' over his previous performances but fair play to him he was more influential last night, still not fully convinced but he did a good job alongside Doyle to nullify Posh.

Davies naturally wants to play out wide & if you listen to Clough's interview he seems to have recognized the side needed more balance with Alcock going to RB & bringing Collins in at CB

Davies, proper footballer, who knows what he's doing. Wasted at right back, played very well right midfield last night and took his goal excellently. As soon as it dropped to him thought this one will go in, been Basham it would have been over the bar.

The problem for me with Ben Davies is a a lack of pace. If he had a bit more pace he would have spent his career playing at a higher standard. I would keep him in the side because he does offer us a different outlet and because he is an intelligent player he also complements other more cerebral players like Sougall and Baxter, and the quality of his crossing means plenty will be created for someone like Higdon.

Hopefully last nights result and performance will show Clough the errors in his team selection for the first 2 games and we can kick on now

He's fine with a fullback overlapping, same with Flynn. Both struggle with an orthodox right back behind them as they lack the pace to beat a man.

4 for the last 20 minutes when Higdon was on as well

Clough is a very good manager, but he's not perfect. Even the greats, Shankly, Clough et al, made decisions that seemed inexplicable and annoyed fans.

All we can ask is that he makes significantly more good decisions than bad. He's well in credit on his account, so far.

I do get the impression that his playing of others (even out of position) ahead one or two of the more senior and established players may have been a bit of a warning shot. Particularly with the comments about going with the kids etc.

Suppose time will tell if it's given them the necessary kick but it'll have proven to them all that Nobody's place is sacrosanct and long term it could be seen as a shrewd bit of management. There's often a method to madness.

Funny no one wanted him in a week ago and now he scores a winner he's loved again, I said he needs to be played and ideally not at full back he delivers to many dangers balls to be left out. Top player and nice bloke, nice family as well met them at the fener game.
