BBC Sport's Pat Murphy on the latest in Sheffield United's search for a new manager: "Sheffield United would have to be patient if they really want Nigel Clough to be their next manager.

"Clough is still waiting for compensation to be sorted out by Derby County, who sacked him just over a fortnight ago and although he is the bookies' favourite for the Sheffield job, I understand Clough wants the financial situation of four members of his backroom also finalised. They are on gardening leave. The process may take some time.

"There is no indication Clough really wants the job. He has been in management for nearly 15 years - 10 with Burton Albion and almost five at Derby - and he may prefer to recharge his batteries once he gets resolution with Derby, rather than go straight back into management."

Someone on Bladesmad said the reporter is supposed to be quite close the Clough family???

I can't believe the board, (then again maybe I can....o_O ) would have sacked Weir in the manner they did, (3 hours after he was giving press conferences for the Cov game) and put all their eggs in the Clough basket without at least being 95% sure he was going to take the job.

I can only come to the conclusion that Clough was never the target and that it's simply a case of the press putting 2 & 2 together and coming up with fuck all...

Dont want him , especially now its obvious he doesnt really want the job .he was very average as a player and is even more average ("-)as a manager

I love the way people say more average etc, reminds me of all those years ago in my 1st year Uni studies when I struggled to come to terms with Statistics.

i love how everybody is quick to dismiss him as not bothered etc on the word of a second hand article.

I'm happy to dismiss him as not worth bothering with, on the evidence of 15 years of his management.

Edit - missed Metal's response, which already covered it.

Don't get it. Why would utd have a short list of candidates, and then interview them, when the bookies have got clough down for a dead cert. Don't think it's cut and dryed. Hope not anyways blokes useless. UTB

How long did it take us to get Weir in? Assuming the last process wasn't thorough enough how can we be assured the next person will be up to it if we recruit in a rush?

As for clough being average, I would be extatic with average with the mess we are in. Oh and as an aside have we fired a manager without having someone better lined up? Again? We never learn do we?

If his hearts not in it then tell him to do one & go for someone with ambition.
