Just read it. Must have been a Gillingham fan. Said the match was dour. Only going on about how they could have won. Only comment was about Che chance at the start. Obviously ignored the stats and all our chances

They are usually shit. I remember watching Burnley vs Tottenham last year on the TV and it ended 0-0. Burnley were better and came far closer to winning yet the BBC report said Burnley held Tottenham to a draw.

Read it too and couldn't believe it was the same game. But Sky's is not that different.

BBC Report

Gillingham strengthened their position in the League One play-off places despite a dour goalless draw against Sheffield United.

Blades striker Che Adams nearly broke the deadlock early on, but his thunderous effort rattled the crossbar.

The visitors pressed for an opener and were unlucky not to find one as Rory Donnelly's overhead kick flew over.

Luke Norris went close toa winner for Gillingham, but his effort was blocked on the line by Jay McEveley.

The result meant Gillingham sit comfortably in the play-off places in fifth position, with United nine points outside the top six in 10th.

Sky Report (we were lucky to survive)

Sheffield United and Gillingham played out a goalless draw in League One despite a number of good chances at either end.

United's Che Adams went close to scoring in the opening minute when his thunderous shot from an acute angle rattled the woodwork.

The visitors enjoyed a good spell with Rory Donnelly's overhead kick only just clearing the bar after keeper George Long dropped a long throw. Long then saved Jake Hessenthaler's 20-yard effort.

Adams' shot from the edge of the area was kept out by Stuart Nelson, who also saved from Ryan Flynn, Paul Coutts and Billy Sharp before the break.

Gillingham's Deji Oshilaja wasted a great chance, heading over from close range.

Shortly before the interval, the visitors survived a strong penalty appeal when Flynn went tumbling inside the area following Nelson's challenge.

Early in the second half, Nelson saved from Coutts while Matt Done put a far post header off target.

Luke Norris had a shot cleared off the line by Jay McEveley, with the Gillingham players claiming in vain that the United skipper handled the ball.

Dour? Dour? I'd watch dour every week then! Obviously not there and made it up based on the score. Even as a Gills fan, you couldn't call that dour.

Just had a quick look on Twitter. They all thought they had a well-earned point and only the denial of their penalty shout prevented them getting 3 points, blinkered cunts.
I haven't seen a team come to the Lane and be so comprehensively battered all season, and I'm certainly no clapper.

Maybe the reporters are right and our standards for what passes as exciting have been dropping dramatically since Clough's last season?

Probably not though. Most likely they copy and paste a few token sentences from the file named "0-0 draws" and change a few words with the thesaurus. The game had everything I want to see bar a winner in the Kop end. A penalty appeal, strong physical battles, heavy challenges, goal line clearances, Result aside, I wouldn't moan about watching that kind of performance every week.

I didn't think so either but when we came out of game walked past a united fan that was mouthing off that match was diabolical (obviously doesn't go very often) could not believe what I heard

A bit of perspective - a report from a Gillingham point of view:

http://gillsconnect.com/s/Gills_New...Utd_0_v_Gillingham_0_-_Big_Match_Report.html?

"a tremendous hard working team effort from Gills who defended collectively with Adam El-Abd putting in a superb MoM performance..."
"It was end to end stuff in a frantic 15 minute start by both teams..."
"This was a decent, entertaining League One game with thrills and spills but no goals at the break..."
"One hour into this entertaining game as first Flynn and then Basham tried to open the scoring but their efforts were well saved by Nelson..."
"Six minutes remaining and United were piling on the pressure as Alex Bapitiste and then Dean Hammond both nearly scored from the centre of the goal..."

Seems that our eyes didn't deceive us after all.

BBC say Dave's avoiding tax, nowt about lying to parliament for ten years.

If the last couple of home games had been the standard for all the home games this season we wouldn't have been too far off this season (still too little too late for me), however if anyone thinks today's performance was top drawer (admittedly a few proper positives - as opposed Adkins bullshit positives - from a defensive, competing for 90 minutes point of view) then they'd be wide of the mark imo. In many ways today's game was dour, how many clear cut, one-on-one opportunities did we have, how many shots did their keeper have to save? I'd say not many, if any. Yes, it was United pushing for much of the game but without much cutting edge, for me a draw was probably a fair result.

I saw tons of chances and I do not normally say that!

1st half - Adams hit the bar. Flynn had a shot saved. Coutts had a shot saved. Sharp had a shot saved from Basham headed/Coutts pull back. Flynn one one one. Keeper saved.

2nd half - Done headed over when right in front of goal, Coutts keeper saved; player blocked on the line

Numerous others blocked by players in box. Several shots just over/wide. Lots of crosses evading players.

I am seen as a pessimist but above shows how many chances, many clear cut. They had 3 clear cut too.

United played well and deserved to win. If it had finished 4-2 it would have been about right for me.
