Baxter was shoved onto the left side last night and barely got a touch in the first half, as the ball was constantly sent down the right.

Second half, he started to pop up more centrally and got much more of the ball. He made some great passes and gave us forward momentum. This allowed Done and Sharp to get onto more balls in the final third and threaten their goal, leading to the unlikely comeback

I don't know whether he was told to come inside more second half, or whether he took it on himself to do so through frustration with not getting involved. I can't understand why Adkins would pick him and then leave him isolated.

He was the only play maker in that midfield, and if he is going to be picked needs to be played to his strengths.

Quick shout out to billy and Done, who never gave up.

But as for the defence -in the main utterly woeful - particularly Edgars.

Depressing read that last line WYB.

Baxters best position is the number 10 role, out wide he is wasted, and offers nothing defensively.
Think Woolford will return on Sat.

Baxter looked a bit overweight when he came on v Peterboro, but he can change games. I agree he's better in the centre, though he could be sacrificed on Sat if we need to prioritise defence, and brought on if we're chasing the game.

Have to agree. Bash dropped off a little second half, Jose came into the middle more and JayMac pushed on. We broke away a little faster and the quicker tempo helped us. Why are we usually so slow? It shouldn't take going 3-0 down though before we roll our sleeves up and have a go. Despite the feel of injustice with the ref we were generally utter shite

He's technically our best player and needs to be played in his best position.

He doesn't have the discipline to play on the wing and putting him there only harms us defensively so I don't know why we do it.

Pardon the expression but "in the hole" is where he should be or

We all have our favourites and I've supported Baxter as a footballer in the face of a hostile say 50% on here ever since he joined us. Frankly his repeated behaviour off the field is unacceptable and I'd prefer us to build a team without him.

Choosing him as No.10 behind Sharp and Done effectively keeps Adams and Reed on the bench and those two should be getting game time.

Reed and Adams are two for next season's team. I'm not sure anybody can say Baxter will still be with us then. If he's on "one more last chance" I think he'll blow it.

We have better players out wide than Baxter and better players up front, for me I don't see much use in our current formation/style of play other than as backup.

I must miss the things Reed does to warrant all the plaudits.

Is it just me who thinks he's been disappointing since his first handful of games?

He was certainly the only one who seemed to be able to find a Blades shirt and also pick a forward pass for most of the game.

To me, it's a bit like the problems we have had in the past fitting in certain players for the sake of it rather than in their 'natural' or best position and for the good of the balance of the team. If Adkins sticks to his 4-4-2 then we really need EITHER Basham or Hammond with a Baxter type alongside them. As people have said, he's wasted on the wing (make up your own jokes :))

If you went last night you'd have seen why he needs to play. Different gravy altogether.

I don't make it to away games, going to home games is enough for me ;) I rate Baxter as a player just worry that he is not defensive enough in a team where everyone needs help out.

Did we play better than we have the last few home games with him in the side? Where would you play him/who would you drop?

How about

Long

Brayford Edgar New CB Harris/Mceverley

Hammond
Coutts Basham/New CM
Baxter

Done Sharp

Baxter is a good player but unsettles the balance of the team. the idea of a team is that the sum is greater than that of the parts.. i think this isn't the case when Baxter plays.. irrespective of his ability.. we can't seem to fit him in.

I love how McEveley has managed to dislodge 'A New LB' in lots of peoples ideal starting 11.

Genuinely - credit to him for sticking to it through the barrage of abuse.

I had Mceveley only because i only expect us to sign 3 players. I went for Hammond Perm, New CB, New CM

Sorry but Baxter should be no where near the team or even still at Sheffield United. I went last night and sighed when I heard he was playing, to get out of this division we need the players singing from the same hyme sheet and no matter where Baxter plays he upsets the balance of the team. His only position is a false 10 and that's because it absolves him of any responsibility's and he can swan around and play the odd good ball. He's unprofessional, unfit, over weight, a drug taker, a pisshead and a bad influence in the dressing room. I wonder what players think when despite his misdemeanours and fitness he's picked in front of then. Get rid

While ever we shoehorn Baxter into our team we will go nowhere. Baxter plays for Baxter at the expense of the team ,you only have to look at the results. we concede possession and goals much more when he plays because he doesn't have the discipline or inclination to play in a team unit ,so we lose shape and it effects other players. I don't accept this technically gifted shit either , a lot of his passes are gambles ,we have better players than him at the club already ,as for his tackling ,watch him for their 3rd goal last night. I wouldn't go into his off field affairs unless they affected us on the field ,unfortunately they do. He missed the play offs when we short of players last season ,he has also had other matters which have cost us his services at important times. Get rid if we want to move on and let someone else try and fit him into their team ,no successful one has yet.

So frustrating is Baxter. Plays a blinder one game, then is poor for a few. Looks interested about 30% of the time. Potentially a very good player but so often fails to live up to it. Starts to hit a bit of form then gets a daft red card or off the field disciplinary issue.

I don’t know why we started with him out wide. We have Coutts, Woolford, Flynn, JCR, Adams and maybe even Done and Freeman that I would play on the wing ahead of Baxter. If we play 4231 he’s useful as the number 10. If not, he should be on the bench or, like in the early part of the season played with Basham in the midfield 2. That’s what I was thinking we should switch to in the 2nd halt with Adams and JCR coming on for Flynn and Hammond (Hammond was already on a booking). That set up might leave us exposed but is an option for when chasing games.
