Just tweeted saying that 'To cut the story short, Murphy left to get more exposure to play for the Scottish national team.'

Maybe the club were telling the truth after all and they had little power once a player decided he wanted to leave..

Thanks. Just checked and the responses seem pretty calm and forward-looking.

Again, easy way out. His job is to create the conditions which mean the next JM doesn't need to leave to further his career. How's the Global Scouting going Mr Baki?

I've wondered this as well Raul with regards to the global scouting that Baki was meant to be heading up!

He seems to be saying that Murphy realised the club has no ambition and so felt he had to leave.

Stuff like this will always happen while we are in league one.

Said it last season when people were saying Clough needed more time to build, how can we build when our best players will always want out cause we're still in league one?

I'm so glad we've got a another Murphy thread, getting worse than Bladesmad on here.

That makes 20, bet even Foxy can't merge that lot, lets sell him.

Scotland look like qualifying for the euros for the first time in donkeys years and he needs to be playing championship football to be anywhere near the squad. The board did try to make that happen by backing clough more than any recent manager has been backed. Clough failed and they sacked him (which the fans wanted) replacing him with the most experienced man for the job (who the fans wanted)

Murphy wanted out and like all footballers they tend to get their wish. For me it's about whether Adkins get the money to spend, if not then that's when I'll be asking questions.

Club needs leadership, someone last season should have made it clear to clough that promotion was a minimum requirement if he wanted to keep his job. Bet he wouldnt have fucked about resting players for meaningless cup games then

Adkins needs to know this too , no long term , build for the future, 5 year plan bullshit up this season or bye bye

How do we know they didn't?

Because he would have prioritised the league over the cups if his job was on the line
Maybe, but you're guessing. I can remember the season before, the general consensus was that the positive momentum gained from the cups was a real positive drive for league form.

As usual, and we're all guilty, mass hindsight kicks in when in backfires.

Fuck em all

Baki, the Prince, and the Board
We are United and we are the Best
We are United, but you we Detest

...and then he asked to leave in August. As Jim said, contracts merely secure the club maximum compensation when a player leaves and do nothing to hold a player. As with all players nobody forced him to leave.

Yes, but clubs can want the money offered more than they want to retain the player & can "encourage" said player to leave. They can play an active part in pushing a transfer through, as opposed to the entirely passive role the club claimed to have taken in this case.

Anyway, he's gone. Let's just use the decent funds that have been generated positively now.
Plenty of scope for putting smiles back on faces & a very adept manager here to do it.
