Do they count in play offs still?

Or have they done away with that rule now?

I don't recall them ever counting in the play offs.

But in answer to your question no they don't

They used to count at the end of extra time, which is how we went through against Ipswich in '97 (1-1 home game, 2-2 away game after a v nervewracking backs-to-the-wall defensive masterclass in the extra time). But they did away with it a few years back.

They got rid of the away goals rule for the playoffs for (at the earliest) the 1999/2000 season. Bolton were the last side to get through that way in 1999.

As for the Ipswich match, Alan Kelly remembered his perspex sheet that night. As I recall he got injured near the start, and in the days of just three subs*, Kendall hadn't picked a sub keeper, and so he played nearly 120 minutes whilst injured.

Ipswich threw everthing including the proverbial kitchen sink at us, but Big Al and the perspex sheet held out, and through to Wembley we went ....

*I can still remember when it was just one sub!

That two hat at Ipshit got rid of the away goal thingy mi jig after the Blades beat them through it.
