ATTITUDE

How many times have we seen that this season especially at home, isn’t it the manager and coaches job to find a way round it, it’s not as though it comes as a surprise they play like that we know in advance how the opposition are likely to set up in every match but we don’t and can’t change the way we play.

That is and what has always concerned me about Hecky. He looks clueless to change things tactically as much as formation/personnel. We had one tactic all game. Give it Norwood, lump it into McBurnie and hope for the knock down. We did that all game. Nothing else until Khadra came on

We need to be more streetwise. Rotherham player on the deck injured. we had a chance to break away. what does the Sheff Utd player do-booted the ball out so that the Rotherham player can get treatment? the next min Rotherham attacked and scored. A similar thing happens late on in the second half Blade player is injured. Rotherham did not kick the ball out so our player could get treatment. They took the ball toward the corner flag to waste time. . don,t get the next time Blades if the opposition player in the box you are defending.do not kick it out counterattack.

All wrong tonight.

No bite, no guile, jogging about. Thought we could just turn over Rotherham at a canter after smashing Burnley.

Burnley means absolutely nothing now after tonight. Utter wank performance.

Credit to Rotherham. Defended very well, held their shape and pressed us well. They’ll never be the best team we play but they did the basics well and got a goal from our mistake. Classic away performance. Credit to them.
Tactic for any away team vs us. Sit in, man mark NDiaye, play quick wingers & hit us on the break. Pretty simple. We can’t break teams down, we’re better when teams attack us

We've simply got done by a better game plan.
We know teams will come to BL and play in a certain way.

It's down to the manager to predict this and nullify it and prepare the players.

Whats so frustrating is we could be romping away with this league if we had some consistency.

I agree, unbelievable their player goes down holding his ankle and despite having a great opportunity to breakaway Foderingham kicks it into touch.

Their player gets up almost immediately, they boot the ball back, press our back four who give away a throw. Two minutes later it’s 1-0.

That Wesley is down to you, let the ref stop the game, meanwhile take advantage of the numerical advantage, for fucks sake.

Thought we panicked and tried to force things with daft long balls instead of playing and keeping possession

No one runs with the ball though, we just pass, pass, pass infinitum, it’s like watching a game of chess with human pieces.

All it needs is someone to take a bit of responsibility, pull the opposition out of position, create a bit of space, instead of them holding their line whilst we piss about in front of them knocking it sidewards and back again until it ends up at Foderinghams feet.

Once or twice McAtee did it, Jack Robinson did it and created a chance down the left, but other than that it was mind numbingly predictable, slow and so easy to defend against.

Benson did it for Burnley against us. Turned our defence inside out at times.

Until Khadra came on , no one ran with the ball.
The whole match we never hit a pass to a player out wide which was either inside or over their fullback or at least ahead of our flanker for him to run onto.
We pass the entire time in front of opponents defence instead of trying to get behind it.
No chance of penetration playing like that against a team sitting in.
What do our management do to prepare our players ?
Distinct lack of coaching it seems.
Not rocket science.

That was the negative from the match for me. We knew how Rotherham would play so what was our plan to get around it!

Sometimes I haven’t a clue what Hecky is trying to do. His substitutions don’t seem the best either. Altho he might have a valid excuse with us having so many walking wounded. Fallowfield got some stick mainly for his extreme attention seeking style but I also often wonder if Hecky is no better than an average tactically.

His interpersonal skills seem to be high and he does know the club so obviously we should keep him.

The big picture is 12 points from last 5 games. Most teams around have had theyre Rotherhamgames aswell. Probably gonna be the closest promotionrace in years. Form in february till may will decide. Don,t think we,ll see anyone doing a Fulham. Usually goaldifference is a good reference ,we,re ok so far. As I see it we benefit getting players back more than most. If we,re in the race by january think we could see some new signing. We played are worst game away to bristol city and still got 3 points, thats the championship. Unpredictable as ever.

Oh ffs are you serious? I get Rotherham love us but ffs I'll credit them nothing, they were awful, we didn't play well but we still should have won that game easily. Their cup final, they got lucky.
Come on pal, sometimes you have to take it on the chin. They did a number on us, your ire should be directed at Hecky and co.

Moderator - can we merge this with the "bed-wetter" thread?

Passing the ball around and keeping possession is fine if it is done at a fast tempo eventually the other team gets tired chasing the ball. We were playing so slowly that it made Rotherhams pressing very easy, they will not have an easier game all season.
I agree fast incisive passing, players moving, creating and exploiting space, one touch stuff.
Great to watch and very effective, but plodding about and telegraphing every pass, taking the safe option to retain possession at all costs, is the complete opposite, awful to watch and totally ineffective.
We were crying out for something different against Rotherham, shame it took Hecky 80 minutes to bring Khadra on, doesn’t really give him a chance to influence the game, but he showed glimpses of what that performance was lacking. An earlier bolder decision by the manager might have seen us nick a point
