Early in the season Clough said something along the lines of "we're creating so many chances, one of these days somebody is going to get a good hiding". Our problem at the time was that we couldn't finish, we genuinely were creating a lot of chances, but somewhere along the line that has all changed - we aren't making anywhere near as many chances. Can anyone put their finger on why, without resorting to "Clough's negative tactics" rhetoric?

Aren't you aware that when we cross the halfway line, that is a chance to Mr Clough?

No I don't mean it ...

I just think that the team seems more lacklustre (less lustre? ;)) than earlier on in the season.

Certainly not having had the same team selected in consecutive matches doesn't help.

I think they are physically and mentally knackered, for some reason.

Scunthorpe 4-0 and it could have been more. But generally we don't convert good possession into enough good chances.

Not really sure why.

I do think our approach play is sometimes too deliberate and till Holt came along we weren't getting enough midfielders in the box.

Speed of attack might be the pitch. I think Bristol City have a Desso pitch and next season all our home games are practically guaranteed to reach the exalted levels of performance we showed at their place.

Same when we get to Wembley.

60 games.

when Done got injured/went on the naughty step.. depending on who you believe

We have been an attacking threat at times, just poor judgement and finishing has let us down.

The constantly revolving formations and the constantly revolving players are to blame.

This will continue for the next three, or hopefully four games and will get NC the tin tack if repeated next season in League 1.

We're too slow, in every sense. We take so long getting into the attacking third the opposition can get everyone back, it's only when Murphy manages to get free that we're lively. We need to get the ball forward quicker, get people forward in support quicker and get behind the opposition.

If I recall the game at Bristol City saw us attacking (second half) with great pace. A couple of goals we had midfielders in the box queuing up for the crosses.

At Wembley last year seeing Baxter get in front of his marker for the first goal and Scougall getting into he box to convert Murphy's cross shows we have the attributes but we are not consistent in attacking with pace, delivering early and having bodies in the box.

We can point all we want at excuses for not scoring.
We have not had a decent, centre forward all season - except for Mcnulty and FFS, he would have got 20+ goals if he had played regular - when was the last time we had one of those?
As for midfield - Basham/Doyle/Scougall/Coutts do not score. At least Holt does. Baxter is an in/out enigma, Murphy has just disappeared in terms of form and Flynn - just too injury prone.

The big issue ALL season has been defence - we just haven't had one - we "may" have done better if we hadn't conceded stupid goals - it's not as if we have been stuffed - just poor down to no cohesion or continuity at the back.

It's been a bloody disgrace.

PO's are a chance of redemption - cup type scenario - we hopefully will do better.
