One issue I've not really thought about until the recent run is, cavalier, overlapping centre halves are all well and good but not at the expense of someone that can whip a good ball in. Basham has a lot of qualities but a number of attacks fizzled out because he found himself being the one needed to deliver the killer ball. Likewise, both wingbacks need to drastically improve their delivery.
Wilder's assessment about needing to show more quality in the final third is right, but I think it's also about adapting patterns of play so that the right players are in position to deliver the crosses. Still overload the flanks but practicing drills that put Duffy or Fleck as the final payload rather than tonight, which saw Basham consistent fluff his lines (although he has immense qualities we do need).
I actually think Stearman is the most comfortable in possession of the back 3. Perhaps we could try him at RCB. A quandary, no doubt about it.
