Armstrong in plumbing U-bend
By Robin Slater - Created on 30 Dec 2006

Chris Armstrong will line up for Sheffield united on Saturday thanking his lucky stars that he is not under a sink, fixing pipes.

Armstrong was forced to quit the game two years ago after a knee injury, picked up in 2003, failed to respond to treatment and left the player considering another career path.

The player will now look forward to the visit of Arsenal, to Bramall Lane, safe in the knowledge that he will be playing football not wearing overalls.

He told the Daily Express: "It was a year-and-a-half between playing games. I quit at one point after we had missed out on the play-offs.

"I looked at a few courses like plumbing. Plumbers get good money so that was why I looked at it."

Armstrong's absence from the game has made him thankful and appreciative of the opportunity to simply play football.

"It means I really appreciate more now the ability to play football everyday. I enjoy every moment I play in games and train with the lads because it is not going to last for ever.

"Sometimes, after playing a big game against a team like Arsenal, I think where would I be now?

"Probably sitting in a pub watching the match. Or worse, under a sink covered in gunk."

Im glad he didnt quit he is probably now the best left back we have i think.

old news about the plumbing thing but i am still glad he carried on playing football. A very good footballer and good to have in the side.
