By a weird quirk of fate, we are currently bang on the same wins, draws, losses and points that Leeds were on after 35 matches that season.

We do, however, have a better goal difference (+25 vs their +21) and, most importantly, a gap back to Boro in 3rd of 7 points, as opposed to the 2 points they had over us at that stage.

Or to put it another way...

We are currently 2 points and a league position better off than our last promotion-winning side, with a 7 point gap to 3rd as opposed to a 2 point gap to make up.

To match our own final W/D/L total from that season we need 6 wins, 4 draws and 1 defeat from the last 11. I don't think we're quite going to get that, BUT, we are still in a much better position than Leeds were going into the run-in.

Their run-in form was bang average: 5 wins, a draw, and 5 defeats from the last 11. I'm pretty sure we're going to do better than that, AND we have more of a cushion to the chasing pack after last night.

Still completely fuckupabble, but draw your own conclusions.

I'm not sure i like the omens here. We finished the 18/19 season with a 6-point lead over Leeds, from the 2 point deficit shown above after 35 games - so we gained 8 points over them in the last 11 matches. So if we were to match Leeds' results from that season, and Middlesbrough match ours, our 7-point lead still won't be enough!

I have however a perennailly optimistic Blade so I'm off to put a tenner on us overtaking Burnely.

Yes Leeds finished on 83 points after taking 16 points from their final 11 games. We had a fantastic run-in and finished on 89 with 7 wins, three draws and a loss.

I've been saying 82-83 points might be enough. But it won't be if Boro go on a similar run to us in 2019.

The big difference 2018-19 was that there were realistically still both positions up for grabs. This time Burnley's run means only one automatic to fight for which increases the pressure on us. From memory norwich won at leeds and that changed the dynamic, but maybe that was earlier?
