Martial was 19 years old when he signed for The Mancs for £38m which could rise to £56m. At the time he had played under 40 first team games.

Was Martial as good as Brooks when he moved to Manchester? He has not really shown it since his move. By the end of this season Brooks, who has just turned 20, might well have 40 games under his belt albeit not in as high a league.

Leon Clarke says today that Brooks has "the world at his feet" and clearly United have a major asset. On the club website there is confirmation the lad signed a new and improved contract in March 2017. I hope it was for a minimum of 3 years and he likely warrants a new one already.

Hype indeed but the lad looks as though he can cope with it; he'll certainly need to because he is a sensation right now -Welsh International squad and Coleman will play him at some stage- MOM at the club game of his life and our lives!! -Player of the Tournament in Toulouse.

And Martial? Well he gets the odd game off the bench!!

Wow.

Martial is top class and would grace the vast majority of top European sides.

Brooks is a terrific prospect, but is raw.

Give the boy a break. Let's not compare him with £50m + players just yet !

A lad that just wants to play regularly, hence the choice of Wales over England.

Totally agree Dronnie, no need to add more pressure on the lad, give him two or three more games at least! :D

I don't suppose you watched Arsenal last night? They had kids out that went past players with ease. Also very raw but talented. Nelson at right back looked very good going forward.

We really need to let him develop without he pressure of claiming he’s world class. He’s a tremendous prospect and I think will be a superb player.

But he’s not the finished article by any means.

Martial has played for France, and at the very highest levels of club football for one of the best clubs in the world. Brooks has a handful of appearnces so far.

Yes.

But it's not money well spent by Man Utd IMO.

The fee looks a lot better when you compare it to transfer fees this year tho.

38m looks a comparative bargain for someone with their entire career ahead of them. Given players are going for 200m now and the likes of arnaughtovic went for nearly 30m

I haven't watched it yet but I will !!

Nothing wrong with giving the talent it's chance.

Maybe he'll end up better than Martial. Who knows ?

But I really rate Martial. You can be sure a big euro club will be in for him for huge bucks if Jose continues to under utilise him.

This is amazing.

Yes, Martial was better than Brooks when he moved to Man Utd.

He is also still better than him now.

Absolutely, but I think he'll get plenty of game time this season.

I'm annoyed I forgot to watch the European youth competition that runs parallel to the senior games (BT have started showing it) this week as I like to have some kind of benchmark for our youth players, to put their ability and performances into some kind of context.

What has impressed me most with Brooks is that he has been able to transfer his ability to the men's game. There are loads of youth players who have skills like Brooks but they freeze when they have to do it with 30,000 people watching them, or shy away from the physical aspect you get in senior football.

Brooks is good and could be great but he wouldn't get near Man U's first team right now.

I wish I'd just said that instead of the many words I used to say basically the same thing.

Can't believe Monaco brought through both Martial and Mbappe within the space of a couple of years.

Martial at 19, had scored 11 Ligue 1 goals for teams competing in the Champions League. David Brooks had made 1 FA cup appearance v Leyton Orient and hadn't yet managed to make an appearance at League 1 level.

Just turning 20, Brooks lit up the Toulon Tournament for England U20's 2nd string whilst at the same sort of age Martial was representing France's senior team in Euro 2016.

So a comparison of their respective positions at the same age area million miles apart. I'm a huge Brooks fan but to compare a kid who, at 20 has played 3 championship games to a kid who, at 19 had played 50 Ligue 1 games with 11 goals to his name is a stretch by anyone's imagination.

Mbappe is only 18 and has more or less just gone for 150m.

Here's what Brooks has over him:

Two years development on him
Got u20 player of the world cup which Mbappe wasn't even a nomination
scored for Wales at the beginning of the month away to a very tough Swiss outfit
Scored vs Stoke and no foreigner ever scores on a cold night in Stoke.

He's got to be worth at least 200m

Apart from Brooks didn't play in the World Cup. He went to the Toulon tournament with the rest of the kids deemed not quite good enough for the WC.

Next week....is Brooks the next Ryan Giggs?

And if he was still playing, would Franco Baresi get in the team ahead of Jake Wright?

Yes but has Martial nutmegged his biggest rivals in a local derby? (I'll add at Hillsborough in case he has).

Have you gone off Louis Reed now? :-)

If Brooks was as good as Martial I'm guessing he's still be at City. Martial is physically light years ahead. Not even in the same stratosphere.

I remember Man Utd fans saying Anderson was better than Fabregas after one game. I'm full of hope for Brooks but id say it's 50/50 he even plays 50 prem games in his career, just too early
