Had a meeting with Admiral yesterday for work, got onto Sheffield United seeing as we had Admiral at one point. Was informed that when Alty lifted the FA trophy in 77/78 they were wearing blades shirts that had been de badged. Had a look and they may have worn them all season. Either way one for the kit nerds there if you’re that way inclined, those who are not I apologise in advance for wasting your time..

Some pictures to boot.

Remember them dumping us out of the f.a. cup after a reply .
Back then it was a major shock .
Was there that night we got played off the park , a rare blip on the 4th Div championship season , they were one of the top non league sides of the time . Under the current format they would have probably made it into the football league , but back then it was the old boys club voting to re-elect sides who finished bottom

They were bankrolled by Peter Swales at the time. I believe they missed out on reelection by two votes after two club chairmen who were going to vote for them, failed to get to the meeting. Rochdale being the lucky beneficiaries

Didn’t know that … wonder if there a few backhanders around that ? .. They had a very good team of the era , took a few FA Cup scalps to in that time , remember them beating Birmingham & drawing at Spurs

I don't recall it being a shock at all. it merited half a paragraph well inside the next morning's Mirror.
Got drenched too on an open end at their ground.
Hard to argue that it wasn't our lowest ebb as a football club.

Off subject a bit but as a football league club I've seen the blades play the following who were non- league in the f a. Cup .
There's possibly more I've forgot
Burscough
Maidstone
Boston ) home and away
Rushden & diamonds, home and away
Altrincham
I know there's a few more I've forgot about

I had a mate at school (Wendyite) who played for Udders for a while - same time as Frank Worthington. After school, we lost touch but then in the late 70s I caught up with him again.
Mrs BoSS the 1st and her family were Man City fans and when we went for a weekend I used mum in law's ST to go with dad in law to watch City. One day in the Cup, they were playing Altrincham. City won 6-0. They had seats at pitch side in the stand across from the Kippax. My mate fetching the ball for a throw in spotted me (4-0 down at this point) and just rolled his eyes and shook his head. He weren't happy. Still in touch now.

Tottenham Hotspur were in the Southern league when they beat us in the 1901 FA cup final. Only non league club to win the cup.
