Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell is lining up Huddersfield keeper Alex Smithies as a replacement for Paddy Kenny.

Blackwell checked on Smithies during Huddersfield’s win over Rotherham in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday.

Kenny is expected to be banned by the FA for failing a drugs test last season.

Smithies is a very good young keeper who would command big money for that level. Have seen him a few times and would say he is as good as Westwood who left Carlisle for Coventry a year or so ago.
