Birch said when ruling Pembo out of the manager's position:

John won't be a contender because he has too important a job to do at the Academy in producing future senior players. In three to five years time I would like seven or eight in the first team.

Is this the first time we've actually made such a statement about the the vision for the Academy or the importance of Pembo to the Academy.

Its great to see, but I have a couple of points:

- I hope Pembo is giving the resources to follow this through
- I wonder how hard we'd fight to keep Pembo in the event of a bigger opportunity coming up for him to take his dream job elsewhere?

Birch saw himself, Speed and Pemberton as the three to push through this new ideal of how Sheffield United should be which is why I didn't think we'd let Speed go unless he made it happen.
That is what happened and unless Pembo initiates a move I think he'll be here for the long term. Personally I think Birch rates Pembos position as higher importance than the first team manager because his work will last longer.
