Good crowd again.

Someone commented on Jim Phipps' FB that it was good to he him on the kop. Hats off to the guy if that's where he was sitting, especially knowing what the mood would have been like had we lost.

That takes some balls!! He's a PR guru.

What was the reception like for it?

Well mine was like this..

I loved pretty much everything about the match today.

It looked to me like there's been a co-ordinated and concerted effort to be positive:
  • Phipps was in our stand talking to supporters down the front and then walked his way around the ground stopping off to chat with fans all the way round
  • Doyle on the bench - no criticism of him at all, but to me a sign of our intent
  • The players seemed to make a point of applauding the fans before and after the game
  • The first half hour was as good as I've seen us play in the League this season: we passed quickly, moved the ball around, got it forward, pressed the opposition, all we needed was a goal, and then Baxter stepped up
  • We either went off the boil or deliberately retreated after that
  • We scored a fantastic disallowed goal :)
  • For me Holt, Davies, Baxter, and Basham had very good games
It wasn't perfect, and there were things that could have been done better, but myself and Foulkes Jr Sr thought it was the best performance we'd seen this season, apart from Southampton.

UTB
If that was our best performance this season that just about sums it up
The season overall that is.

Win lose or draw we are fucked?, or we can take this win and push on for the remainder of the season, I know that red and white stripes are important to the fans and our history I see them every day as pass BL on the way home, I never fail to look at the sign that says sheffields red and white, That's enough for me.

Hate the "all back defending a corner" I think there are too many bodies and that hampers your CBs and keeper from doing what they should.

Done should be on the half way line and would occupy 2 or 3 defenders as they would be shit scared of his pace. He is so capable of winning a ball and taking in the last man and getting a shot on target, why wouldn't you deploy that tactic. Not doing it just invites pressure back on as the oppo can float one back into the mixer, uncontested, especially if they have a height advantage - which most of them do

Stick three on the half way line and occupy five of theirs.

Just another boring game at BDTBL. The sooner we get rid of the man, and half of the useless players he's brought in the better

I remember we played nervously in some of the last games of our previous promotion seasons. often in March and April, the struggling teams have a winning run and the top teams lose matches that they were expected to win
too right silent happens with us every time we are expected to get promotion cant remember a time when we made it easy. We had edgy moments even when we won the 4th division championship coasted it in the end.The big problem we face is expectency
whether it be championship or this division our fans think we are the big club which we are most of the time but that added pressure makes it harder to get over the line when players start getting edgy they do silly things and can lose confidence quickly.Even the currie woodward team looked like they had blown it but came through that patch stronger finished with an unbeaten run of eleven games pressure and expectancy always makes it harder for us..So it was pleasing on sat that most fans showed a bit of patience even though we were making hard work of it ( i fear what the reaction would have been if we had gone 1 down). We are good enough to reach play offs and even win them but the expectancy level is a real problem at times, not making excuses but when the players relax a bit we can see anybody off in this division.Come on unitedites help the players relax i am sure we would be rewarded with displays and improved results

I knows simplistic however you can only go on a run when you win a game. After the run we have been on it doesn't matter how or if we deserved it, especially with two more to come this week. Sometimes you have to stumble into form with a bit of luck. And boy do we need it

Season 1969-70 - we lost 4 successive matches in March (we were in 2nd place with 8 games left) and finished 4 points behind the automatic places

1970-71- Two down at QPR on 13th Match with two minutes left before Woodward and Hemsley (pen) levelled the scores, we were lucky to get a point in the home game v Norwich (April 3rd) who dominated for most of the game but couldnt put the ball past John Hope who made several saves (they did score a goal that was disallowed for a reason to this day I do not know why), struggled to score against at home to Millwall (April 13th) for 85 mins before Hockey broke the deadlock using his hands to knock the the ball off keeper Bryan King's hands and then slide the ball in and the ref allowed the goal to stand.

1981-82- Keith Waugh saved a penalty in the 2-2 draw at Tranmere in March 27th, unconvincing home draws against Bradford, Bury and Bournemouth. 2-1 down at Crewe but two late goals by Jeff King brought us home 3 points

1983-84- lost 2-1 at Bradford on April 7th. Late winners By Bob Atkins and Kevin Arnott got us 3 points each at Rotherham and Southend respectively. Defeats at home to Wimbledon and at Bolton seemed to have finished our chance of going up as we had only one game left and one point ahead of Hull who had 3 games. Surprisingly Hull lost at Port Vale who were only relegated and drew at home to Bristol Rovers. We beat Newport 2-0 in our last game and hoped that Hull wouldnt win by 3 goals at least at Burnley! Hull were winning 2-0 at Turf moor with half hour left and couldnt score anymore!

1988-89 - In the last 14 games we had bad defeats at Chesterfield and Southend (both got relegated) also at home to Cardiff and Mansfield, poor home draws against Notts County and Brentford (earlier in the season we thrashed both of them by 4-1). We were made to battle hard for wins at Mansfield, Northampton and Chester

1989-90 - Lost 5-0 at West Ham and 2-1 at home to Barnsley in March. In April lost 3-1 at home to Sunderland and 3-2 at Fratton Park, lost 4-0 at L**ds. A late own goal and a last minute Deano goal got us wins in the home game against Oxford and Port Vale respectively

2005-06- Won only 4 games in our last 10 matches

2011-12 and 2012-13- we had poor results in March and April too
