Hopefully we'll stick with that system into the future now.

The midfield first half vs the midfield 2nd half was a chalk & cheese thing. Yeah, Baxter was great when he came on, but Bash & Reedy both looked much better within the more solid 433 system too. It didn't hinder creativity - in fact quite the opposite.

JCR has been disappointing. He's a better player coming off the bench.

4-3-3 would take the game to the opposition more and give us the extra man in the middle. Adams when fit could play in the formation too no problem.

I suggested a 3-5-3 on another thread too which could work. Giving us an extra CB, extra CM and still have 2 up top. Probably lacking out and out wing backs for that though but it's an option.

3-5-3 would be great until the referee noticed.

Has JCR really got goals in him? How many has he had this and last season?

Admittedly he's been slow to start, goalscoring-wise, this season.

But last season he had a strike rate comparable to (even a little better than) Jamie Murphy.

JCR scored 7 in 32 appearances (S/R = 21.875%).
JM scored 10 in 47 (S/R = 21.277%).

4 in 19 games last year. Better than Flynn (1goal) managed.

Wow! Better than Flynn then better than Murphy!
Seriously, that's much better than I would have thought. I do like the way he runs at defences, but more often
than not finishes disappointingly. Maybe that's inevitable - can't expect a goal every time he gets the ball. Murphy always seemed to offer a greater threat when in possession, but maybe that's the impression given by pace over "trickery".
Still don't know or understand why JCR went (or was sent) to Notts County last season.

Worth a shot because 4-4-2 isn't working.

Agree. The last few games we've struggled to cover enough grass in midfield. It leads to situations where we give them too much time to pick a pass/cross/shoot. Some will only point at the poor sod who can't close down the man with a telling pass, but it's a team thing at the moment and it's happening regularly. We have to consider changes to both personell and formation to regain our competitiveness.

Think 4-3-3 would put a lot of pressure on the wide players. Think we probably lack that dominant defensive centre midfielder to play it from the off.

That said it allowed us to press Bradford further into their half and force their defenders to play the long ball.

Agreed - earlier in the week I said 4-4-2 isnt working - going five in midfield or the 4-3-3 is always worth trying - as it proved today.

If Baxter is to play in a 4-3-3 from the start Adkins has to get into his head to convince him hes not there as the show pony flicking glamour boy and he has to work like he did today. It would work with Basham and Reed/Scougal ,but would be better when Done is back as part of the front 3. Until then I hope he plays Sammon and Sharp with Flynn or JCR not McNulty or we would go too narrow and it wouldn't work. We would also require full backs who can attack and get back.

you mean like the beard and harris? :)

Might be good if we get Harris back because in 4-3-3 you don't get a wide man helping out the full back not sure Mceverly or Alcock are good enough to cope.

agreed 433 is reliant on really good fullbacks who don't need protection.. Ashley Cole being the prime example

Reposting this as it was a genuine request. Once Reed and Baxter were on the pitch I could not compute.

  • Exactly how were we set up after the substitutions? Which players were where? (I was at the game but couldn't keep track of where everyone had moved to as, contrary to some posts on here, they did keep moving around.)
  • Who was captain? I didn't see anyone with the armband second half.
  • Can someone give me an Idiot's Guide to 4-3-3 (or 1-4-3-3 as Adventurous Adkins may prefer to style it). Please.
