Last Friday marked the 30th aniversary of my first visit to Bramall Lane.

Since then i've had a season ticket more seasons than not, visited nearly 100 different ground to watch the Blades from the big games to the pre-season friendlies in the middle of nowhere. I've drank all over the country watching the Blades, i grew up in a pig stronghold when they was winning trophies and competing in Cup Finals and Europe, my behaviour has been abominable in my pursuit of watching Sheffield United. I've been sacked from jobs for refusing to work on a saturday afternoon, during a period of marital discord i was threatened with a divorce if i went to Hartlepool United for a League Cup game, i went and paid for it with my marriage.

I don't care if people don't like the fact that i'm a Blade, all my best mates are all Blades, and for the last 30 years i've had my fair share of disappointments watching the Blades, but i wouldn't change it for the world.

Born a Blade, and i will die a Blade

Here is to the next 30 years.

We do what we want, we do what we want, we are Sheff Utd, we do what we want

You either didn't like your wife very much or have a very strange sense of priorities....

Or I suppose it's possible his wife might have been a tad unreasonable. Threatening someone with a divorce for going to a football match seems a bit extreme!

When i met her i made it abundantly clear that first and foremost that i was a Blade, and my weekly attendance at Sheffield United matches up and down the land, was non-negotiable.

Wife or Blades ? no brainer that :) Blades just piss me off August -May....usually

I suspect that didn't come out of the blue. Without taking sides in Brownie's marital disputes or knowing what led up to it, from her point of view that might have been the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back

Fair enough, but I have been a United fan for nearly 40 years now and if I cared about my relationship and it was a chocie between trying to save it and a first round away league cup game, well, I would think United could get by without me this time. That's just me of course.

You might be right, and Brownie may let us know whether or not that's the case. But it does seem likely that she married him knowing full well that he was an avid supporter of Sheffield United and placed a high importance on following them home and away.

But surely even the most avid United fan has to put a limit to their obsession - presumably Brownie would miss a United game for a close family members' funeral, the birth of his child, his wife being rushed to hospital etc etc. So if Mrs B said (and I don't know if she did), "look Brownie, I am really worried about us, we need to talk things through, can you miss the game tonight as we really need to sort this out", would it not have been unreasonable of B to say "nope, I'm off to Hartlepool?"

I missed Bolton at Home in the Premiership (11/11/06) to attend my sisters wedding, although that was only after a period of consultation and deliberations which would have meant disownment and estrangement from the family if i had not been at attendance.

I agree with you, but of course events may have been quite different.

I'm thinking more along the lines of a Top 5 Bash Tours.....

Didn't your other half follow pigs Brownie ? that might explain it :)
