Had the pleasure of just watching the game again, and just thought I would check exactly what Rhodes did after entering the field as I didn’t remember his name being mentioned yesterday while live....so just for shit and giggles I did some expert analysis on his contribution since his arrival on the field after our third goal in the 68th minute.
It started well for him, he ran on the field and immediately went into the middle of the field between the central halves....think its fair to say that was the only time he was in space and had some leeway to move in the whole game.
His first actual involvement in the game where he influenced anything at all came on 72mins....didn’t touch it but won a free kick from CCV. So four minutes of jogging about.
From that point on, Until big Leon got his 2nd goal on 76mins he had 1 touch....that being a header from a piggy clearance while under pressure, which dropped to a Blades man in space. (Snigger)
After our 4th goal, up to the end of the game Master Rhodes had a grand total of 4 touches. FUCKING FOUR!
2 headers from long balls back to a team mate, and two flick headers which went to Blades players under zero pressure.
And that my good friends is it. The title of this thread.....In a 26 minute appearance in the match where he had 5 touches, all headers that is £2 million pounds per touch in a Sheffield Derby (based on his transfer fee alone). Only two of those touches found a team mate....that’s £5m per pass completed.
AND NOT ONE SINGLE KICK OF THE BALL....absolutely staggering.
Brought on to get a goal at a critical time and didn’t kick the ball once in 26 minutes. He nearly got a kick in the 93rd minute bless him, but a Blades defender dealt with it easily from another aimless punt forwards.
What else needs to be said. He looked completely out of kilter and out of touch, coming short for the ball to see a team mate pass it elsewhere...usually sideways, and managing to avoid getting close to any balls forwards.
But it’s ok....he cost a bomb in a fee, is paid £40k a week and made that kind of impact in one of their 2 biggest games of the season. That makes him eminently “better” than any of our forwards according to their dumb fans....well most of them anyway.
Hope you enjoyed that expert analysis.
