Estimates from fans at Valley Parade say their crowd was about 15K at best.
Many were shocked to see their official gate as 18,039.

However it's been explained that their season ticket holders are automatically included in the gate even if they don't attend but 3,000 season ticket holders not turning up for the first game seems shockingly high.

Regards our game the official away attendance was 2,048
So virtually 21,000 Blades in attendance yesterday which is incredible support for a club in their 5th year in league 1, having a disastrous start to the season losing 4-0 to the Gills and also selling one of our best players (Murphy) on the eve of the match.

There's not many clubs in England could attract 21,000 in such poor circumstances and remember it was a cat A match with high prices. Thank God it was an entertaining match and I would expect many to return for the next home game against Blackpool.
