My two boys brought down the 02-03 review tape from its archive position yesterday. They are 7 and 9 y.o. They sat in wonderment at Jags Leeds goal, Browny's many strikes from outside the area and the Notts Forest P/O semi with Pesch's goal. I watched it with them and have to say whenever I'm down I'm going to watch that again it is a massive pick me up. I know we didn't get to either final or promoted but it was the best season I've ever seen even better than the promotion season four seasons back or the year we did the double over the pigs and stayed in Div 1 with Bassett.

The midfield that year was incredible. Tonge, Brown, Nuddy as well as McCall and Monty. I wish we had that amount of attacking flair in midfield now (obviously talking about Tonge, Brown and Nuddy however McCall did some very positive touches and long shots).

I'm feeling up again and don't need to watch it for a while. Just hope we can get the win today. UTB

That season was just magical for me, I'd always kind of drifted in and out of football all my life until that point. Although I've always followed the Blades I'd maybe go 2 or 3 times a year. That season I fell in love !!! It was the Leeds cup match that did it. After that I went to every home game and a few away. The only games I didn't go to were either league cup semi cos I couldn't get tickets. Its fair to say I doubt I'll ever enjoy another season like that one (unless we do the treble any time soon ;)) I think I'll have to dig my Triple Assault DVD out of the cupboard.

It was a great season - I found the DVD out the other day too, will have to give it a watch :)

Stand out moments for me were Browny's goal against the wendy's and Pesch's celebration in the play off semi against Forest. Also being on the top tier of the stretford end for the FA cup semi and never realising how good Seamans' save from Peschi was until I saw it on TV. That day meant a lot to me bein a closet Gooner too (ssshh don't tell anyone). But to ultimately lose was dissapointing. Cardiff was heartbreaking.

I have always felt that McCall was the key to that midfield. It was very fluid, with players swapping positions throughout matches. Tonge would start on the left, but often pop up on the right. Ndlovu would start on the right, but often appear on the left. Tonge would cut inside and Brown would then go outside him. But McCall was the central pivot and everyone seemed to play around him.

Too right...McCall was key and it was Warnock who decided to leave him and Windass out at Cardiff...a decision which,in my opinion, cost us the game:thumbdown:

We'll never know whether or not it cost ius the game, but I certainly think we'd have made a better fist of it with those two in the starting line up.

But as they say, hindsight is a wonderful thing. I can understand why Warnock went for Rankine. McCall had only just recovered from injury (maybe he wasn't fully fit - who knows?), and Rankine played very well against Forest at Bramall Lane.

However, the Windass decision to me is harder to explain. Once he and Kabba came to the club I thought they were easily our most dangerous strike pairing.

I wasnt forward thinking enough to buy the triple assault on dvd and instead bought it on that ageless piece of technology, the video tape.
Needless to say, it is the only reason i havent thrown my video player away, and ive watched it so many times the sound has completely disappeared to be replaced by what sounds like an aeroplane engine having a heart attack.
Has anyone ever managed to sit through carl asaba's interview without winding it on?

i remember 02/03 season when brown scored sum excellent goals. McCall was a rock in midfield...

what a fantastic season and i have that tape too. Nuddy, tonge, brown, mccall, jag's, peschie, kenny, all legends.
