Great finisher, but needs to pick up the rest of his game.

If he's not going to pick up the rest of his game and he's relying on his end product, which can be done to make it as a good striker, then he needs the service.

He's not going to get that very often from this side.

Oddly enough reminds me a bit of a young and raw version of Keith Edwards. Yes a poorer version but Edwards was a lazy fucker who just stuck the ball in the net.

you made yourself look a cunt on a general chat thread yesterday. Tyler Durden fella hung you out to dry.

I'll agree I got my keyboard caught around my neck in that debate, happens from time to time when you get a bit excitable. When are you going to own up to thousands of posts that either say the same thing or indeed usually say nothing.

McNulty will score 20 goals in this league if played most of the season, that I have no doubt and Sharp will probably get 20 goals as well, my question is though when you have lets say McNulty on 3k at best a week and Sharp on nearly 6 times that at best a week then where is the business sense from our board and club when we are a league one club, needing to save as much money as possible, when we had more pressing concerns in the squad?

Guys mcnulty has been great for pompey real don't nt understand why utd sent him out on loan

1) game time
2) game time
3) game time

He was/is in a queue directly behind Billy and Matt Done.

He offers very little other than goals at the moment. The ball very rarely sticks with him.

You have to be extremely prolific if all you do is score goals, bc essentially the team is constructed round you.

When we were scoring, goals were coming from many different players - their goals were only part of their game.

Are there any pure goalscorers in modern football like Greaves or even Lineker?

Funny listening to Ian Holloway on Sunday saying that whenever he went to Bramall Lane with his teams , he knew that after ten minutes the crowd would be moaning, and helping the opposition and not their own players. Said that the supporters were negative and over critical. Criticised supporters shouting attack attack. He said nobody plays like that any more. Leaving themselves open.

Dropped down a level to a side that will piss the division, not sure where their money has come from by the way......

Sharp would produce exactly the same results if we sent him there.

Watched Sparky's first start against Wimbledon on Sky and tbh the standard didn't seem to be much different to some of the fayre I've seen at the Lane this season. He's got about 5 goals in 5 starts I think now, and starting to show his worth.

Didn't get regular starts here under either Nigel, so maybe that has summat to do with it. I don't think he'll be coming back, reckon he'll sign for them in January or end of the season after extending his loan.

Was he a pundit on Sky?

McNulty and Sharp far too similar for me.

One thing our side does need is some urgency and pace when going forward, far too pedestrian, and i've not seen us a whole lot this season to come to that conclusion.

Think since McNulty and Higdon went out on loan, it's no coincidence that Sharp and Sammon's performances have dropped off alarmingly. The first month of the season or so, when there was competition for places up top, Sharp and Sammon had to be on top of their game (and they were) to get in the team. Since they have been poor.

I like McNulty, probably most natural goal scorer at the club, and the type of up and down performances we got from him last season were what I'd expect from a young player moving from Scottish to English football. He was brilliant against Southampton and that's the level of performance he should be aiming for on a regular basis, the manager should also be aiming to get the best out of him consistently.

There are good reasons he is out on loan.

The January transfer window can't come round soon enough. We can finally get rid of players that are not right for us.
There are 3 possible ways this will happen:
1 other clubs will want to buy them off us; unlikely, but not impossible
2 pay up their contracts. Again, unlikely but there are a number out of contract in the summer so possibly a gamble worth taking if there is genuinely better quality we can bring in
3 a U.S. style massacre at Shirecliffe by some loner, aggrieved by our lack of success, armed with a Kalashnikov

Sadly, I think the third option is the most likely

I would be sending Sammon back and calling back McNulty. For me Sharp is still the better player and would start ahead of McNulty but it frees up an extra space for another loan player (maybe a CB). Plus I would imagine Sammons wages are at least double what McNulty is on.

Pompey are in love with Sparky. He is establishing himself here and obviously, playing one league down from his previous job and with people who can supply him from a different approch, he is making his mark.

Don't be surprised to see Cook make an offer for him when the opportunity comes about. Cook will face massive fan pressure down here if he lets McNulty go back to BDTBL.

FYI - again, a division down from where they were playing last season, Doyle and Davides are very popular with the fans.

just wondering what your thoughts are on this ..

I know mcnulty is clearly a bit of a billy big time and has some daft mates but I honestly think he is a 20 Goal a season striker if he plays all the time .

and he's out on loan ... Shouldn't we be recalling him he's clearly hit form ?
......oh dear

He'll be back when he's banned from all the clubs, or when Portsmouth itself runs out of lager:(

You clearly haven't been to Pompey.

He'd have to be dressed in black and sporting a bigger beard than Brayford and carrying a Kalashnikov pointing heavenwards and yelling 'Allahu Akhbar!' for him to be barred from pubs on musherland.

I worked on the doors here back a few years. It's worse than Baaaaahnsleh.

Good point finnis ton made Mr Foulkes ,we as a group of fans are quick to get at our own team when things are going badly.
Is it down to passion ,expectancy or frustration ?down the years it sure is true that our fans do help the opposition if we don't start well against what we think is inferior opposition.Holloway is not the first ex player or manager to comment on how negative our fans can be
If we don't make a good start.Keep em quiet and the fans will turn how often have we heard that!! from opposing managers ,it's true !!
It would. be nice to ram that down the throat of the next manager who says it,can we prove them wrong.!!!

Don't know why some fans are getting so up tight with McNulty going out supping on a Saturday night after a match. My only problem with it is that he doesn't take the rest of the lads with him, they might start fostering something called team spirit.

McNulty atm couldn't have done anything like the job Billy did when he came on today. A League apart. If he can add general play to his goals he'll be a different player, but he's not yet there.
:tumbleweed::):):) Smashing one in off your shoulder from around thirty yards whilst looking the other way?

Some dick probably said we'd sell 10,000 Sharp shirts and add 2k per game on the gate. You know, like no team ever did ever, apart from if you sign Beckham or Ronaldo for a world renowned club who can shift that globally rather than us trying to sell tickets in a shop that can't handle it and shirts in a shop that probably bought three extra 'S' letters in anticipation of the rush.

It smells of McCabe buying Billy back for ten fold what we paid for him, for an as yet undecided manager a few years ago. I like Billy but pound for pound I'm afraid a goal a game probably wouldn't add up for him unless I'm very mistaken and he's taken leave of his senses and came to us because he particularly likes the White shirt and Adkins.

McNulty could be good, but he's not a prospect any more. If he wants a career he should get fit, get nasty, get greedy and smash 20 in, get us up and puff his chest out and go 'grrrrr' and either we would reward him or he could be an in demand player. I kind of think he acts a bit like he made it already.

I know where you're coming from, it's around 1990, I enjoyed that too but if a decent team went en mass down the leadmill regularly now they'd get toyed with by the athletes that play in their league.

Or you do it in Ireland, Baxter does something daft and everyone says WTF is going on. Can't win. If this lot were out as often as the likes of Billy Tightshirt they'd get fucking hammered on here.

Calvert lewin has scored more goals in the same league, and neither have scored as many as Sharp.

McNulty might be worth a seat on the bench
